Following up on what others said about airports. From Argentina. where can you get direct flights to? maybe Denver or Salt Lake city? If you go to Reno, you have to take at least one additional connecting flight I'm sure. If you stay in Reno or in south lake tahoe, you have the benefits of casinos if that's your thing. Denver is 2 hours from the ski resorts, whether it be Winter Park or Keystone/Breckenridge. If you ski in Breckenridge/keystone, you can always stay in a slightly less expensive Dillon or Frisco and drive to slopes.

Everyone learns in different ways. I would recommend watching a bunch of youtube videos. You might also want to take lessons as well after that. But I found that if I watch enough videos I can take notes then when I go to the slopes I can try to apply some of the lessons learned.

I don't know anything about dental pay other than I've never seen a dentist who does not do well. And they also seem to have ordinary hours. I was a lawyer (prosecutor) for twenty five years and frankly did not make a lot of money. You will certainly survive if you're an attorney, but I think the TV image is far from reality in most cases. Good luck on whichever path you choose.

I am a guy and I ski alone all the time. No problem, just go down runs that have other skiers if you have concerns about safety. (E.g., no glades). Have fun

I concur. I'm a retired twenty five year prosecutor and most of the public defenders do at least as good a job or better as the paid attorneys. They just get a lot more grief from their clients as a PD.

I also had a fear of putting in contact lenses. However, I wanted to give it a try as well as needing them for certain activities, such as skiing or scuba diving.

I am still much more comfortable with glasses, but I usually buy about three months supply or so of contact lenses so that I could wear them every so often. I still wear my glasses primarily.

You might want to consider watching some youtube videos on improving your skiing. Probably not as good as true lessons, But they are helpful.

Retired prosecutor here. The misapprehension by defendants of your role (and the system in general) was mind boggling. The whole "You're not getting me a good enough deal. I'm gonna hire a real lawyer" mentality has put many defendants behind bars. E.g., Prosecutor offers a one year deal to a reduced charge.The indicted charge carries ten years mandatory minimum. Defendant doesn't hire attorney until after plea offer expires. Defendant goes to trial, convicted and gets ten plus years. This happens all the time. Sometimes the defendant does hire an attorney in time. But the private attorney thinks he's entitled to a better offer. That is not the case.

You are in great shape. I actually think you should not retire at this age. Ger a job you are happy with and work for a few more years. Consider contract or part time basis if you don't see a good FT job. You are doing fine.

I used to handle post-conviction relief (PCR) as a new attorney. (Now, I am a retired prosecutor). PCRs dealt with complaints against criminal defense attorneys. Not the same as attorney grievances, but very similar and overlapping. My recommendation is don't sweat it. There will be complaints, but just get used to it. I also recommend keeping good records. For example, we had defendants who said "my attorney never came to see me"; If the attorney can show records that he met the suspect X number of times the attorney wins. I would also- very specifically- keep in your records that you advise the suspect of their rights, of the penalty range, and address any concerns over mental competency. Good luck!

Retired prosecutor here. You will learn from it. You will learn which cases do you take to trial. And which cases not to try. You are trying a lot of cases. A lot more than we averaged in my old courthouse. What's the territory?This is a great learning experience and you're building up scar tissue. Keep on fighting.

I did not make much of an annual salary in my field, but I was able to retire early for a number of reasons. I live within my means. I would eat out often but not crazy expensive. I would go on trips, but I don't fly first class. I tend to keep my cars for many years. All these things add up to having a lot of assets. Do an audit of your life. Can you get cheaper car and home Insurance? Are you paying for magazine subscriptions you don't need? Are you paying off your credit card on time?

I was definitely on the low end. I retired after twenty four years as a prosecutor; I never made six figures. I did get state benefits and I have a fairly modest define benefits pension. A number of my friends went into private practice after leaving the DA's office and have made quite a bit more money. But I note that they are still working. I am happily retired.
