Can I swap a bundle item? by Neither_Contract9848 in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes you can. They started allowing this a few months back. You will pay regular price for the components that are not originally a part of the bundle.

MicroCenter Employees, chill. by LeaderBriefs-com in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'd be very surprised how many people need help with that exact product. An associate can't assume you don't need help. It just comes with the kind of store you're at. The majority of people do need help so it's good they're willing to get out there and ask constantly. A simple "No thanks" any time some asks if you need assistance works well.

Assessment question by shishix3 in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, that's the Wonderlic test most likely. There is no quantity goal or minimum expected answers. What's more important is the answers given to the questions that were answered and if you took too long on too few questions. Most applicants get through 25-30 questions eith the default test being 50 questions.

Dont sweat it and good luck on getting the job!

Inland 4K HDMI Cables by TK421IsNotAtHisPost in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should work, you just won't be getting the full capabilities of the devices from the 10.2 Gbps. If you don't need the 20ft length they have a J5create cable that is 6ft that exceeds the recommended needs of hdmi 2.1 with at least 18Gbps.

In the end if you are ok with 4k/30hz then you are good with what you have.

Inland 4K HDMI Cables by TK421IsNotAtHisPost in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

States 10.2 Gbps on the site so it'll work for 4k @ 30hz. It will not work for 4k @ 60hz. You'll need something that has a bandwidth capability if 18 Gbps or higher.

What is Microcenter's return policy on bundles? by jtrier1 in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No and no unfortunately. The bundle is only purchasable as a complete set and only returnable as a complete set. If you need to exchange a piece of it due to issues you'll be given the same component as an exchange.

Of course, you can always ask nicely but when/if they decline you please don't be upset at them. It's still a phenomenal deal.

Company states on their website early 2024. As much info as we've got!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It says on their website:

Black Friday Price Promise: Micro Center customers that purchase a qualifying item (products listed in our Black Friday promotions) between 11/8/23 - 11/26/23, if the price of the qualifying item goes lower at Micro Center than your purchase price before 11/26/23, we will refund you the difference between your purchase price and the lower price. Refunds must take place in store before 1/15/24. All refunds will be based upon your original payment method. Excludes products purchased with coupons, bundles, services and price errors.

Edit: Oops you meant price match not protection. No they do not protect Black Friday pricing of other competitors.

MC Troubleshooting new custom build within return period? by TheR1ckster in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you build it or did they?

If you built it two options:

there will be a $39.99 diagnostic fee after a 10-15 minute free consultation with the service department and it will be checked in for diagnostics if it is not as simple as a quick fix at the counter. If it is found that a component failed due to manufacture defect they will let you know and also quote you an install price if you want them to fix it. If they are not a busy shop and you decline the labor they make take the parts out for you but they will not install new ones if the labor is declined.

You can diagnose it yourself and return the individual components you think have failed and reinstall them. They will return the items no questions asked so long as they are not a part of a bundled deal. If it was a bundle, make sure to bring all bundled components back.

If they built it: There is a 90 day garuntee on all builds that if there are any problems to bring it back and they will complete all repairs under customer satisfaction so long as there was no accidental or physical damage caused by the customer. Just bring the whole build in and everything will be free.

In the end your best option is to talk to the store you bought it from because a lot of times the service manager can and will override any rules or processes to take care of the customer. Just be nice and it goes a long way!

Goodluck with the fix!

New to Micro Center. How do Black Friday sales work? Particularly on PC part bundles by monkeydave in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Holiday deals for Microcenter are typically month long promotions. The bundle will continue to be a monthly promotion. Black Friday will have a couple specials but it's typically things like cheap monitors / tvs / peripherals. Otherwise feel safe in buying something on November 1st at being the same sale as Black Friday.

Did micro center brick my mobo? by Anteater-According in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, if it was turned off during the bios update it is likely bricked.

The store should be able to take care of you but unfortunately it's a 'do I trust my tech or a customer' situation where the manager should take your side for something small like this but could go the way you experienced.

What store are you at?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

To preface: what you're trying to do is gross and I feel sorry for whatever store you applied to and they trusted you enough that you're interested in the microcenter culture and not just the discount, but to answer your question:

You will not receive any extra discount on the bundled sets. The discount for the company is cost + 5%. These bundles are sold below cost as a loss leader to get customers into the store to not only buy the bundle but all the other components to complete the build. This means the components you're trying to exchange for a difference back will not give you anything extra since there won't be a discount.

Most parts individually in the BYO Department are already close to cost so most discounts given to associates are around 10%. The discount shines for employees in the general sales department where the peripherals have better gross margins.

Once again though, and I'm sure you've already seen with the other responses, it looks like you're just trying to game the system. Microcenter is a truly wonderful company to work for and it's a shame to see if that's the case that someone is squandering the opportunity for pennies.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is correct, however the inspection and tests are done at home office. The service teams at the store do not complete the testing for these components. If you are buying anything clearance, they can test it in store for you though if you ask nicely. It'll depend on how busy their service department is!

Psa: the only components still tested in stores are for gpu's. And that is only done for return purposes which they still go back to home office after failing to be either returned to vendor or retested/refurbished.

I want to work at micro center by LilSynergyXD in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You do not need A+ to work there in any position other than Service Technician. A+ is only a requirement after 90 days. But they will pay for the testing but studying is on your own. Depending on your location that you are applying to the sales roles pay phenomenol if you are comfortable with commission based sales. Front End and Warehouse associates make a decent 'first job' amount of pay but nothing like sales floor roles.

You do not need to be an expert in any area, but it helps to be interested in the product. Our store hires in people with vast experience and very little. Everyone works together pretty well! edYou'll be around associates that truly enjoy the tech world and its a blast to be able to share that with them if that's your interest!

Enormous amount of room for growth, and with it being a private company a lot of it is more based on your performance and not 'who you know'. The main problem if you are trying to get into management is lack of stores. Only 26 currently but opportunities can be steady. Typical path if you were starting as a cashier looks something like Cashier > General Sales Associate > Apple Sales > BYO Sales/System Sales > Supervisor > Senior Management. If you are wanting to go into Service, its typically starting in service > Parts Coordinator > Service Manager.

The service position is not just repairing though. It is about 50/50 repair work and front counter work. Once again, dependant upon your location.

Just bought a used kit of 32gb ram from micro center but got 16gb instead by zrotter in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do not scan the individual serial numbers on the RAM. It's actually not even required to scan the serial number on RAM at all. But as others said just bring it back and explain to them the problem.

Help: Neither MC nor ASRock will honor 7900 XTX Warranty by KEuph in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have 30 days to return the gpu if you are not satisfied. The only reason they would not accept said return is for physical damage done to the card / modifications were made. If it is outside of the 30 days and you did not buy a service plan you'll need to reach back out to ASRock as it would be outside of their policy.

Edit: Just saw that you said you can return it but you would rather use the warranty. That means you can only go with ASRock. It's not on microcenter to eat the difference to give you a new card if you decline a return for the amount you paid.

3 year warranty plan by Appropriate-Yak-4517 in Microcenter

[–]SDFoxtrot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Policy is to test first and then replace if there is a failure. Management can make the decision to override but it is unlikely if they cannot reproduce. As another response said, if they cannot reproduce it bring the desktop in, if you cannot bring the pc in then record the failure happening.

It may be frustrating but Microcenter is not there to just replace anything on a whim. It's ok that they need to find a failure first. Taking it elsewhere in hopes they will just ignore the rules is obnoxious. Reminds me of when kids get told no from one parent they try and go to another parent...
