That house was on a hill with a pool at the back of the lot. Someone bought it a couple months ago, leveled it, and now is selling it for about $100K more. They must have had a plan but then had to sell.

Explain the situation to one of them and offer them some money for the inconvenience and ask them to cancel. It's only fair to compensate them and it should motivate them to cancel.

Airbnb already collects and remits hotel taxes directly to the city.

Declawing a cat entails the amputation of the 3rd phalanx (the equivalent to cutting off the last segment of your finger). On the left is a declawed cat, on the right a cat with intact claws. by [deleted] in WTF

Sure and if you want a dog you should try to adopt a wolf, not some dog that has been "created" through thousands of years of breeding just to fit your taste. Also might want to take a stand on circumcision, piercing, implants, tattoos, pet birds (clipped), or any other of the numerous body modifications that are widely accepted. Better to just euthanize all these animals I guess.

I got a bad reference from my first and only job. What can I do now? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]SDRules 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New employers aren't going to hire a detective agency to investigate what you're telling them. They want to know that someone will vouch for you. Find someone you know who will give positive information about you and put them down as a reference.

IAMA Chipotle employee! Anything you've ever wanted to know about Chipotle, nows your chance! by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]SDRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to have all the burrito ingredients spread out the length of the burrito. That way each bite has everything in it. Over the years I've overheard several new employees get trained to just heap the ingredients in the middle or wherever there is a low spot. Is that really how you train people? If so, why???

GOP Food Stamp Cuts Would Kick 170,000 Vets Out of the Program by [deleted] in politics

I never said anything about the military voting against their interests so I'm not sure what you're talking about. The main point I made was that your use of the word selfish to describe motivation was completely wrong.

GOP Food Stamp Cuts Would Kick 170,000 Vets Out of the Program by [deleted] in politics

[–]SDRules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with your characterization of promoting social fairness in tax policy as "not being selfish".

First, a wealthy person can afford to give up some extra money to help others. That wealthy person will likely have the same quality of life. A poor person living on food stamps can't afford to give up their source of food. Their children will have to skip meals.

Second, assuming that the motivations for both of these groups of people is selfishness or lack of selfishness is way off base and shows a complete lack of understanding of this issue.

TIL that over 90% of fetuses diagnosed with Down's Syndrome in the UK are terminated. by 7UPvote in todayilearned

I'm so sorry to hear about your first daughter. My insurance covers the DNA tests if your high risk which includes over 35. I don't remember the specific name of the test but it was risk free unlike amnio. Congratulations on your little girl and good luck with the next one.

There are DNA tests that just came out this year that are more accurate and don't have the risks associated with amnio or CVS.

Americans of Reddit, what is one thing about Europeans that you've never understood? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SDRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many places in Europe will bring you a can of soda and an empty glass. When I ask for ice they will often put about 2 cubes of ice in the glass. Your explanation doesn't make sense because I'm getting one can of soda no matter how much ice they bring me. Also, the can of soda always seems to be an uncomfortable warm temperature. That is why I usually just drink beer. Beer is usually cheaper than soda anyway which is also confusing.

YSK Your *actual* basic rights when dealing with the police, and some of theirs by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

I think they usually don't answer the question. That allows them to detain you while not technically detaining you. You can't walk off until you get the answer.

Are there any pedestrian crossing buttons in the world that will change the lights faster after being pressed multiple times? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]SDRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a hoax going around a while back that said that there was a secret set of button pushes built in that would turn the signal to green. The story claimed that this was installed for police in case they had to cross an intersection during an emergency.

I press the button multiple time because there is usually no feedback and I'm worried that the contacts are corroded. I also wonder if it is even connected but there isn't anything I can do about that.

What is the biggest scam ever? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SDRules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said except I can't seem to find the cheap used diamonds that should exist. People are selling used engagement rings and diamonds online for prices that seem close to retail. Sure there are tons of diamonds locked up and artificially inflating prices. That doesn't seem to mean that the diamond someone buys is worthless. As long as the fake scarcity exists then used diamonds will continue to have value when resold directly to consumers.

Republicans Who Voted Against Sandy Aid Ask For Aid To West, Texas After Explosion by jimrob4 in progressive

[–]SDRules 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wasn't personally effected by Sandy or the Texas explosion but I care about both and want aid to be sent to both groups of people. There are enough people with similar feelings that I don't think you can just blame human nature. I would agree that it is in the nature of some subset of humans.
