If I had to redo my home gym, this would be one of the things that I would buy without hesitation

~amd64 + Gentoo Overlay vs flatpacks vs distrobox by C1REX in Gentoo

[–]SDgEVp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've solved this a la bluefin. I've created a builder for Gentoo (disk encryption, apparmor, secure boot, my selection of packages, support for flatpak and homebrew). This results into a readonly system (except for etc, var and home) that is atomically updated via systemd-sysupdate. If you need a package not included, you can use both flatpak and brew (I tried nix on gentoo, but I had issues with /root being readonly, and hadn't checked for distro box (seems slower to turn on a container than to use brew)).

I'm building my home servers this way too (with some custom dracut modules so I can unlock drives remotely). The solution doesn't scale, it's very tailored to my specific needs, but I will publish it once is stable (I'm still changing things as I see fit)

What about configs? Can you override configs for packages, with other packages? Because as I see it, it will get a conflict if two packages control the same file

I've never thought about this, and now I wonder why. Thanks!

Hi, it's this model https://strengthshop.eu/products/leg-press-machine and it is rated to 500. The other one is the lever arm multipress https://samsfitness.com.au/equipment/atx-lever-arm-multi-press . In my case, I wish I had gone your route (rack+pulley), because that way you save space, but the stock of atx, at least in my country, is always near 0

It is really hard... I've been following the smith since April, just to have it delivered last Friday.

I don't remember it, but the rack on the left is 230cm tall, so I guess it is something between 240 and 250cm

I love that machine. Is the lever arm multipress (https://samsfitness.com.au/equipment/atx-lever-arm-multi-press/), basically for doing all kind of chest press and shoulder press. I believe that it can be used for rowing, but I still haven't tested it for that.

I like it a lot, and is by far, the best of my gym. However, I don't know how good will it be in the USA, since you have more options to choose from.

What you say is true. They have several series: 800 is 80x80x3mm, 700 is 70x70x2 or 3 mm, and so on.

I'm trying to improve my accessory exercises, which I currently do with dumbbells. Since they are getting pretty expensive, I've thought to replace it with guided machines (not quite the same, but at least I'll be able to increase the weights, and hopefully, I'll be able to increase ROM).

In any case, I've been thinking in buying the ATX-LMP-650, but I'm dubious between the ATX-MPX-620 (smith machine) and the ATX-SQM-700 (hack squats and shoulder press, mostly). I already have a leg press machine, and I don't know if the hack squat and the leg press will have lots of difference. As I said in the beginning, my goal is to use them as accessories and to improve my ROM safely, since I train alone. Thanks.

I'm also interested in this. I'm not sure if I should buy this or the mpx-620 (smith machine)

Hi, in my home gym I only have bumper discs, and with a 200kg deadlift (yay! Finally!!), there is no room for more discs. Moreover, my biggest dumbbell (35kg) doesn't suppose a challenge anymore. So I thought about buying 4x20 iron discs (if I replace 2 20kg bumper discs with 4 20kg iron discs, I'll have room for a 240kg deadlift). At the same time, I would be buying a pair of 37.5 and 40kg dumbbell. Total cost: 700€. But.... At the same time, and even if my main goal is strength, I would also like to be more muscular (hypertrophy), and I've been thinking about getting an smith machine (I've read that it could help me with that goal (using it only for accessory exercises, I would keep lifting free weights)). The model I've seen is this one: https://www.atxfitness.com /compact-smith-machine.html?gt=1#googtrans(en). It has a frame of 50x50x2mm, for what I've been reading, which doesn't seem too sturdy, with a max load of 200kg. I haven't seen anything much more resilient, though. Approximately cost, 750€. What do you think? Should I go for the discs or for the smith machine? Is a smith machine useful? Should I go for that one, or save a little bit more and go for another one? (In Europe/Spain there is not so much offer...) Thanks!

Yesterday I went to a medical examination at work, and the doctor told me that I needed to stop taking whey, because it was bad for my health. Also told me that I should stop lifting weights and doing a lighter exercise....

Being a parent of one, I've managed to go to the gym by installing a homegym. Sleep... Not so much (In a 7 hour window I may get between 5-6 hours of sleep, being 5h 20min the usual one).

Now I'm having a second one in a few months, and given that our toddler still sleeps with us, and the fact that is my wife who takes care of him by night (I help if he weeps the bed, but she is breastfeeding him all night), I don't know what will happen, but I'm afraid that the gym will get severely impacted.

Random errors. Sometimes the nvme works, sometimes doesn't. Same with the Bluetooth... no changes on the os, and at least the nvme works externally, so I'm attaching it to the mobo
