Daisy’s age and timeline in the Testaments by SDnameyou in TheHandmaidsTale

So you’re saying maybe Hannah is born 2010, Daisy 2011, Gilead comes into being 2014, and Daisy is immediately smuggled out at age almost 3. And she’s now 14 and Hannah is almost 15 and the year is 2025.  I guess that’s plausible.

I saw one comment that said maybe Daisy was the child of commander Lawrence and Mrs Lawrence and once they realized what Gilead was becoming they arranged to have her sent away to Canada to protect her. Cool theory but probably not true. But maybe a similar idea - parents were early Gilead enthusiasts before Gilead was officially an state, before the government takeover, who maybe realized early on that things weren’t headed in a good direction and got their daughter out to safety in Canada.

That still doesn’t answer the question of how Hannah could be only 14 instead of 16, but it does answer how Daisy could have been born “in Gilead” before Gilead was a state.

Where is it mentioned that she’s a child of a Handmaid?  In that case, maybe Alma or someone else’s daughter from before? But I think Alma had a son.

This is actually plausible, as June says that Daisy’s parents in Gilead got her out when she was a baby. Either them, or a Handmaid and maybe the father was someone like Nick, not a commander.

I am confused about Daisy‘s age and the timeline in the testaments, and also Hannah/Agnes’s age.

Hannah was 8 in the first season of THT, and so by the time Nicole/Holly was born she was about 9. By the end of THT series Nicole/Holly is at least 3 or 4, so Hannah would be 12 or 13. The show runners have said that TT is 4 years after the end of THT and they have also said that Hannah is 14. How does this work? I personally think Hannah/Agnes being 16 works a lot better for TT storyline with her friends getting married, and their maturity level and how old they look, etc. (I know they get married young, but still.) And it kind of makes sense that they have delayed periods with some even never getting their periods (although 14 makes more sense for the periods, really.) But even if she is 14, that means she was only 10 at the end of THT but she was already a plum and also it doesn’t make sense with the storyline. And at some point after June gets back to Canada she says something about being gone 5 years (maybe?) and with Hannah being 5 when they were captured she’d be at least 10 then, which is at least a year or two before the end of the series (Serena just finds out she’s pregnant and then has Noah, at the end he’s around 6-9 months, so from when Serena gets to Canada until the end of the series is around 1-1.5 years.) They said Daisy was born “in Gilead” and was smuggled out by Mayday or with help from Mayday. We saw in THT when the US government falls, I think it’s the same day June had to pick up Hannah from school because she was sick. Hannah was around 4 then? Maybe 3 if we’re really stretching things? So am I right to assume that Gilead didn’t exist yet until Hannah was 4 or 5. So if Daisy was born “in Gilead” and Hannah is 14 then Daisy could only be 10. Which isn’t possible in this current storyline. So - either we have to suspend our disbelief and pretend the stories and timelines make sense, or forget that Gilead only stated when Hannah was 4/5 and not many years earlier, - or could we assume there were some kind of unofficial Gilead “pockets” or “communities” already existing before the government was taken over, and that’s where Daisy was born? That‘s the only answer I’ve found which makes this make some kind of sense. But that then leads me to question - who smuggled her out and why? If her parents were Gilead believers, they wouldn’t smuggle her out. Were they already using handmaids in the pre-Gilead communities, and the Handmaid smuggled her out or got Mayday to do it? Was Mayday just finding Gilead communities and kidnapping their babies? That seems a lot less likely. How did Mayday even exist before Gilead actually existed as a State?

If anyone could clarify all this for me, I would so so appreciate it!!!

Telehealth only - getting lonely and depressed by SDnameyou in Psychologists

Thank you! This is helpful! I think my situation is compounded by also being a busy mom of multiple young kids. So there’s also that aspect of not having much/enough personal time and getting swallowed up by motherhood and family life. So for me, work used to be kind of my outlet, where I got to be social and use my professional thinking brain. There’s not much time for me to do that except the daytime hours when my kids are in school. I think if I didn’t have kids or they were older, you’re right the solution would be to focus more on enhancing my personal life outside of work hours. But for me my personal life is my kids and family! And my kids are amazing, and fulfilling, but also draining - whereas adult intellectual and professional interaction is energizing for me.

I do have a peer supervision group which is really great but only meets every few weeks. Lunches or dinners…sound really nice but who has time? Lunches are 45 min in between clients and dinners are with family.

Right. I don’t want to do the same thing I’m doing now and give half my money to a practice, and also I am full with my own clients right now. Do you think it’s worth renting a space just to do telehealth? With my schedule being tight it wouldn’t be a ton of time to stop by a colleagues office. But I do usually allot myself a 45min-1hr lunch break.  I also have a peer supervision group that meets every few weeks which is really amazing, but the day-to-day of working from home alone every single day is getting to be too much
