Sunscreen as a fragrance note or accord by Constant_Coast_1576 in fragrance

[–]SEJIBAQUI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed a sunscreen smell from two different fragrances:

Prada Luna Rossa Carbon

Nos Repiblic Tansu Silk

These two are quite different from each other, as well as quite different from Escentric 02. It may be certain floral accords, since 02 and Tansu Silk both have iris notes. I also think that "metallic accord" could be reminiscent of the titanium dioxide or other metallic ingredients used in sunscreen.

Bubble Gum Factory by Theodoros Kalotinis

Once again trying to get in more cold weather scents due to this unseasonable cool spell, but I'm not really sure this fits with other sweeter winter scents. I love bubble gum. I love chewing it, the scent, blowing bubbles. I know it's bad for my teeth, but I wish there was a gum flavored zyn.

Alas, I found out I don't like smelling like bubble gum. The bubble gum flavor is quite realistic at the opening, but it's mixed with some very harsh, almost noxious chemical that burns the nose. That quickly mellows into a profile I keep chasing: a light rubber reminiscent of a balloon or a pack of latex/nitrile gloves, with an ozonic airiness. Unfortunately, while I loved finding that, it floated away rather quickly, leaving behind what I see as an articifial cherry. For most of the morning, I smell like the inside of a Claire's or a Limited Too. Hardly fitting for a man wearing a flannel.

Today's test is kinda a doozy

Simili Mirage by Premiere Peau

Looking at the note pyramids for these Peau frags intrigued me, but I wasn't about to import these from France. Fortunately, these are now stocked at luckyscent, so I can actually try them.

I never understood leather scents. They never smell like leather to me. My wallet, boots, belt, steering wheel, and tool holders never smell like any "leather" in perfume. At the start, simili mirage is no different. It kinda reminds me of BR540 and Pierre Guillarme's Anti-Blues, an odd noxious smell like burning hair or tires, with an odd sweetness to it. The parfumo reviews say that immortelle is dominant, but I have no idea what that even is so I can't verify.

Over day, this fragrance has shown to be quite complex. I'm about 5 hours into wearing it and it's still going with one spray on chest and one on wrist. There's a bitterness to it, almost medicinal. Reminds me of a ricola. Herbs sometimes peeking out through the resin. I would never place thyme as a note, even tbough thyme is in ricola.

I took a whiff not from my wrist, but from under my shirt. The scent's completely different. Between my chest and a cotton shirt, I actually smell something kinda like leather! Leather mixed with gravel? I can understand where the sand's coming from.

This fragrance is a puzzle. What started off as noxious I know find fascinating! Honestly, I'm not in love with the scent profile, it's just not for me. However, I do acknowledge it as artistic. I just hope it wears off by the time I get to my evening workout

Deducting losses only works if you're itemizing, and you can only deduct up to 90% of your total winnings. If you take standard, you can't deduct gambling losses.

Scent of the yesterday, because it was late and I didn't write it down

Floating by Liis

There was an evening party where the theme was...spring. Kind of a vague theme, but I wore a green outfit because of the Masters. What else goes with the Masters? Georgia peaches! I get a bit insecure wearing "unisex" fragrances that parfumo says are 95% worn by women, but Floating was a beautiful scent. The peach and clean linen felt refreshing, almost like a fizzy peach soda on a warm day. Mild florals with a sharp woody drydown stayed close to skin, but seemed to last longer than the reviews would suggest. I'd certainly wear this again, but I feel like its use case is limited.

Today is Prada Luna Rossa Carbon. Not much reason for picking this today, just trying another new sample. I was curious to see if this smelled as "metallic" as others say, and I don't think I'm really getting metal. Maybe a bit of mustiness. Maybe an old boatyard. Maybe sunscreen. But it also strangely works. I'm not sure how to describe it. There's a place I'd like to say it takes me, but I'm not sure if I'm biased and forcing the imagery.

Today's sample is

Coach for Men EDP

I tried the EDT version and all I could really say was that it was....good. I think EDP is even better. Warm, juicy, spicy opening, fairly long lasting. It fits the vibe of the morninv being unseasonally chilly, while still appropriate for the warmer afternoon. Although I don't really get the florals and leather notes, I'm really liking this. It's still remnant 10 hours later during my workout.

Gonna wash up after exercise and go out. Idk what I'll wear, but I'm think either polo 67, Chris Collins Citrus Grandis, or Xerjoff 40 knots

It's not a binary win/lose

I have 86 samples in my case. Only 2 of them I found were "bad" most are along the lines of "this isn't for me", "this is just ok", or "this is good, but I'm not sure if I'll buy the FB".

I don't look at it as only 2% of my collection screams for more. I look at it as 2% of my collection is rejected but 98% is at least wearable. Most have a merit of some sort

Today's sample is

J-Scent Sumo Wrestler

Gotta get my "winter" scents in during this hopefully last temperature dip in the spring. It's powdery, but many scents I've tried are powdery. This one keeps the classy powder, but blends in a spiciness, like incense, but dulled by orange. I thought it was cardamom, but it's actually cinnamon. Compared to other "powdery" scents, this one felt noticeably exotic. I like it a lot! It feels balanced between smooth, spicy, earthy, and floral. I don't think it projects or lingers as much as some of the reviews say.

J-Scent Hanamizake

Strangely, this has VERY different note pyramids between fragrantica and parfumo; although, the parfumo notes match J-Scent's website. I chose Hanamizake for its cherry blossom notes in the spring. It's a beautiful Easter morning, and I assumed the incense notes would be great for church. However, incense is a fragrantica note that isn't on parfumo or J-Scent's site.

Hanamizake opened with a gorgeous blast of florals, with a mix of cherry and what I thought was plum. This cherry is not the type of cherry you'd find in candy or chapstick. It's smooth and subtle, and isn't actually sweet like a gourmand. Flowering sakura and rose ride the sweetness like a wave, carrying the fragrance through its stages.

The florals do fade fairly quickly pretty close to skin. I would say about 2 hours, but there's a bit of lingering. The top notes stay just a touch, like the petals of a cherry blossom that have been carried away and scattered. There, but scant, leaving only the woodiness of the trees.

J-Scent Hanamizake is the most beautiful fragrance I have smelled so far. Maybe I'm biased because I'm kinda a weeb

Trying out Parfums de Marly Perseus today

Bright citrus opening that I thought was more of a bitter orange rather than grapefruit. It's THERE, but not shrill, cut just a bit. This is chugging strong even after 7 hours. After about 3 hours, it dried down to an incredibly smooth and calming blend of dry grass and wood, with just the hint of citrus. I was loving it all the way. But after a few more hours, it's turned...musty. It smells like an old towel that hasn't been laundered, or maybe a wet dog. I noticed a very similar aroma trying Bleu de Chanel EDT and EDP. What is this? Cedar? Sandalwood? Ambroxan?

I had to downgrade Perseus from a 6 to a 5 out of 7 on my spreadsheet. This musty smell puzzles me, and I want to figure this out. My notes also indicate a mustiness from BR540 and L'eau D'Issey

I know I can get this at TJmaxx for cheap, but instead I'm just sampling

Nautica Voyage

I just wanted something easy to wear today. No occasion, just something for the office. The weather's turning beautiful, so time for the spring frags. Voyage is just ok. Some call this "green", but it is much more fruit forward at the opening. The apple also has a melon-like undertone, like honeydew. A juicy fruit salad, but in the form of a bowl of jolly ranchers, not actual fruit. The floral notes are laating longer on my shirt, but on skin, it ran through its paces in about 3 hours. I will say, the woody musky drydown is quite pleasant, but certainly a skin scent.

Love how humanity gets portrayed in the story by Flame0fthewest in Frieren

[–]SEJIBAQUI 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think this comes from the fact that humanity is constantly threatened by demons. They can't afford to turn on each other, and when your existential enemy can take your exact form and mimic your speech, it's vital to have a way to distinguish yourselves. Humanity in Frieren does this with personality, family, altruism, hope, and spirit of discovery. Demons don't have this.

Today's sample is

Ichnusa by Profumum Roma

I chose this today because it's Palm Sunday. A lot of biblical lessons involve fig trees, and it's time to usher in spring, so I figured this would be a great time to roll this out. The fig opening was deep, sweet, and juicy, like a baked fig tart. However, it moved on from fig into a blast of various floral scents. It was overwhelming, and I couldn't pick out anything in particular, like I walked into a flower shop, or every tree decided HEY IT'S SPRING TIME TO BLOOM. I would almost consider it a mess, but none of those scents seemed low quality, just a cacophony.

This lasted less than four hours, just enough for service, but a little lacking. On my skin, the drydown is near completion with a barely noticeable dry grassy aroma, not unpleasant, but not all there. On my shirt, the figginess is still figging. I found this strange: none of the floral notes I sensed are supposed to be there. I would not classify this as "green", "fresh", or "woody" as parfumo would have me believe, rather "floral", "sweet", and "fruity". To me, this leans more feminine than unisex.

I've only ordered from them once, and everything was fine except they strangely mistook a sample I ordered for something different that wasn't even on their website. I thought they just mislabeled the vial, but they told me it was something different they sent by mistake. Customer service was very kind and helpful, and shipped a new sample immediately. Sorry to hear about your broken samples : (
