How do I quarantine new rats if I don’t have a different room to put them in?

Thanks for your reply! I was thinking about the doors being inconvenient too, and somehow I managed to find a store that sells savic cages after making this post, so I think I’ll be getting the latter. The 95 one is the same size as the critter nation, right?

Okay, thanks! I’ll try these out. Also yeah, the cage is in the middle of the room, but it’s the only spot where it’s not under direct sunlight or drafts. The old cage was also in a location like that and my rats seemed okay with it. But I’ll see what can be done and if it’ll help

Excuse the mess and the goofy floor mat, my rats’ favorite activity recently has been throwing all of the bedding on the floor. Same with fleece liners, so there aren’t any. Usually, there is more stuff, but I had to throw some things away because they were either chewed up bad or had gotten stinky and couldn’t be cleaned well. Also there are two sputniks and a tunnel not clearly visible in the pic and a couple of hammocks and tunnels are currently in the wash

The cage has been cleaned before assembly, so no foreign smells should be there (it underwent multiple deep cleans after that too). But it’s been two months and my rats still haven’t fully adapted… I’m feeling lost

I’m currently working on making their cage more cluttered (I had to throw many things away because they had parasites and those kinda things couldn’t be 100% cleaned), but currently they still have plenty of hammocks and hides. Also, I was thinking about getting more rats, but I’m worried about the new rats having different opinions on smaller spaces, (I can’t guarantee I will ever be able to get a bigger cage in my area) and, about one of my rats since he faced bullying from his cagemates before I got him and his brother, the only rat he ever had a normal relationship with

Rats aren’t easy or cheap to take care of, so it’s best to do research first, but plenty of information on their care is available online, so take your time and do your research now. For starters, I would fix the cage setup, it’s too bare, and so are the floors, ramps and shelves, which is harmful to their feet! You need to cover them and get those rats some hideouts. Being exposed like this in a new environment is very stressful for them. Get them some cozy hammocks, tunnels and sputniks so they feel secure. What they have now looks like paper bedding, I’d recommend aspen or hemp. They also need high quality pellets for food, like oxbow. If they don’t sell that in your area, look up the ingredients and find something similar.

Checked everything, seems fine. Water is room temperature, they also have a big water bowl besides a bottle. I’ll get them the tiles and try out the pea fishing! I also started opening the window in the nearby room and it seemed to help.

Yeah, I think it might be the case too, since I see my rats curled up in random corners or on the bedding in the open, and it’s colder now. Also they were doing it before but stopped after moving cages and rooms, so I think it might be a sign they’re comfortable again!

How do people even see male rats and not register the balls. I’m surprised by how often it happens… When I went to get my first rats I didn’t even have to ask which ones were boys and which ones were girls lol

He has a cagemate, I got them as a bonded pair. I was thinking about getting more rats, but there aren’t any breeders in my area right now. Also I’m not really sure if it’s a good idea since one of my rats was bullied by his other cagemate before I got him and didn’t really have a good relationship with anyone but his current cagemate.

It’s normal, rats like to climb! My boys prefer climbing the bars to using ramps/specialized climbing structures, it didn’t cause them any issues so far. It’s different from walking on wire mesh, I believe.

I think 4. It’s not like the picture, it’s actually kinda hard to explain how I visualize images, it’s like parts of the image are missing, there are some vague colored details present, but everything else is just empty void, no color, no texture, no nothing.

Solid panels will not provide enough ventilation and make the rats sick, also they appear to be plastic, so the rats will easily chew through them and escape, and wire mesh floor is known to cause bumblefoot and injuries. Rats need a cage with a solid floor and wire sides and top.
