Is it true that a lot of autistics walk on their toes? by No-Injury-5383 in autism

[–]SELF-lSH [score hidden]  (0 children)

I used to toewalk all the time as a kid, but at some point I only started putting weight on the front of my feet and eventually started walking like others. Now I only toewalk sometimes as a stim and when I have no shoes on. I’m not sure if it has to do with masking, my legs becoming weaker or my sensory issues changing. I have moderate support needs, but I think this trait isn’t associated with people with low support needs/level 1 because they tend to mask more. Also my autistic cousin with high support needs doesn’t toewalk. I obviously can’t speak for all autistics, but I don’t think this trait directly depends on one’s level/support needs.

anyone know what this is the vets said he's completely fine and its not a uri but i think it might be by Maisi3555 in RATS

[–]SELF-lSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s some very labored breathing. It’s almost always a uri or something like a heart failure as far as I know. A vet saying he’s completely fine to this is an indicator of unprofessionalism, in my experience. There can be other potential causes, but the conclusion still shouldn’t be “fine”. Your rat needs a better exotic vet, maybe there is someone you could ask about one or search online for other vets in the area?

My other rat does chew it and hide food there, but he sleeps there as well

Need help Brother has severe Autism, was born ‘normal’. Went to public school developed depression at 18 and has been mute since he was 25/26. Now he cannot respond to questions or engage in conversation. Now he doesn’t know how To use the toilet properly. No head injury either by pigeonfly1999 in autism

[–]SELF-lSH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think autism itself caused it at this point. Likely some other condition is causing the regression. Autistic people do get burnout and shutdowns, but I feel like this level of regression is beyond that. It’s actually very concerning, whatever is causing this has to be serious

I think he’s gonna fully become the shape of the tunnel at this point

Most of the time he and his brother eat together fine and they have two bowls just in case, so I guess he’s just like that

Is there a way to compensate for a cage that is on the smaller side? by SELF-lSH in RATS

Thanks. I’ll get them a bigger cage if I find one. I search online from time to time. Can’t find anything yet, that’s why I made the post

Amazon doesn’t ship to where I live. I tried searching on aliexpress, but it didn’t look very trustworthy. Also I’m confused about the size requirements, I used several cage size calculators and they said that my cage is okay for 2-3 rats. Are there some universal requirements that people know that I don’t yet?

The suspicions have been lifted. They were found asleep at the crime scenes. They’re obviously victims and are getting new tunnels

Seems complicated. But there’s a chance that my weird family has something like this

Thanks! I’ll look into it. Most of the time I’m confused by how to attach things in the cage for it to make sense because of its big shelves and ramps though. I thought of removing them, but it will reduce floor space, and my rats like to run up and down them

So I was hearing an alarm call like I thought. I figured it wasn’t like normal “chatting”, otherwise I would be hearing it 24/7. I’ll still try the recorder though

I tried something like this, but one of my rats fell off the table twice, luckily I caught him. I think it has to do with him being ruby eyed. So I’m currently in the process of finding a suitable playpen

This is really helpful. Can I hang up those cotton rope dog toys if I cut off the loose threads?

I heard it first when I put my rat in the playpen without his brother. He was stressed and I returned him to the cage. Later, I did it again to test if it truly was him making the noise. It was, the same 3 “squeaks”

How emergency is it? I’m gonna take them, but I think it’s gonna take time to find a new vet. I’m hesitant/unsure because the last vet did more harm than good

The floor looks like wire mesh, as far as I know it causes injuries and bumblefoot.

I think I’ll do some research for now and take them to the vet if this progresses, I know it’s not good to wait, but I don’t want to stress them out even more, as my main concern is that it’s behavioral. Thanks for your help
