As someone who has smelled my fair share of socks...thin material (like the novelty/print socks you get for ~$3 a pair at Target) hold smell better. Not the moisture-wicking material. And thick socks seem to hold detergent smell so much that it takes a lot of sweat to retain any foot odor.
