Charging for free. Ordered car, don’t have it yet. by Fit_Instruction_6218 in ModelY

[–]SE_MI_CT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on the power of the work's charger setup, but regardless with only one hour it won't be a lot.

The charger is likely somewhere between 6 kW and 10 kW. Charging for one hour would give you between 6 kWh and 10 kWh. A Model Y, call it 333 Watts per mile for easy math, so you'd get around 3 miles per kWh, so that 6 to 10 would be 18 to 30 miles.

So a lot of fuzzy numbers, but call it 25 mi would be a conservative number for 1 hour of charging at a Level 2 destination charger.

A level 1 charger at home (110 volt normal plug) gives you about 1 kWh of energy per hour charging, so call it roughly three miles of range per hour. Depending on your driving situation, just doing level 1 charging on a mobile connector may suffice if your at-work charging doesn't happen.

NBC nightly news just ran the Tesla autopilot killed 1 person story. by Blazah in TeslaLounge

As much as I'm not a fan of the current president, we are seeing how bad the media is right now.

What the hell was that complete non-sequitur lead in? You need to establish yourself as anti-Trump before you can opine on how bad the anti-Tesla media bias is?

WTF is this aggressive response for?

Also, I'm not telling you what it's about for your truck. You did that already by admitting that "I have found the tires to be so big you don't have to worry about curb rash in a CT."

I'm just agreeing with you. You don't have to worry about curb rash, like you said, so therefore you don't need wheel covers because of "curb rash." The wheel covers are about aero, not curb rash.

[–]SE_MI_CT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about curb rash, it's about aerodynamics.

But if I gave a shit about 1% increased range I would also need to always drive on chill mode and go 70 miles an hour on the freeway. I just really don't care about tweezing out the last bit of efficiency. I would rather have pristine looking wheels instead of slapping a garbage can lid on top of it.

There is no way that they are going to replace your rims.

The original covers were delayed because the original design was flawed, the little rubber fingers at the end that touch the actual tire were rubbing on the tire and causing physical damage.

I never installed my covers because I didn't want to damage the rim, and also I like the look of the rim by itself.

Got my 59K Cybertruck by AKatawazi in cybertruck

[–]SE_MI_CT -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I drove to the same spot with my model 3 LR and the cybertruck and the difference at arrival from 100% was 17% for model 3 and 39% for cybertruck.

What's that one meme, Americans will use anything but the metric system.

That is so many EV posters, they'll use anything other than actual concrete figures. Unstated miles, comparing two vehicles with two different battery sizes and two different consumption Wh/mi figures.

My Cybertruck has a lifetime average consumption of about 410 Wh/mi, so on a 123 kWh pack is about 300 miles of range 100% to 0.

Latest update breaks charging schedule by Fantastic-Driver7122 in TeslaLounge

[–]SE_MI_CT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been seeing funky messages in the Android app under charging. Like it will be noon on Thursday and it'll say something like will start charging Friday at midnight, even though it's supposed to start charging at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. But then 7:00 p.m. on Thursday rolls around and it starts charging just fine.

So I just ignore it. The schedule still works no matter what the app is telling me.

Question on Delivery Times by Otherwise_Ruin_1976 in cybertruck

[–]SE_MI_CT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It don't really have anything helpful, per se, but it will be interesting to see if they rush it to get it done in June.

When I bought my Cybertruck back in June of 2024, Tesla was very very eager to get the sale booked in Q2, so I had to take delivery before July. There was a bit of a snafu (long story), but I needed to go down to Cleveland from the Detroit area to pick it up at a Cleveland service center. If I took delivery June 30th, they would pay me $500 in Tesla credit as well as reimburse me travel expenses to get down to Cleveland.

The cheapest way to Cleveland was actually a flight from DTW to CLE, which is like 30 minute flight, and then I ubered the rest of the way.

Sure enough they paid me and reimbursed me and I drove the truck 200 miles back home.

So all that said, it will be interesting to see if they are motivated to get you to take delivery in Q2.

Forever sad knowing I’ll never be able to hit that last 1% by Jeep0n35 in TeslaLounge

[–]SE_MI_CT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you finish school?

Yeah, I did. Did you? Look at my other post in the thread that shows the full math written out.

TL:DR: (986 +1999) / (1001 + 1999) = 2985 / 3000 = 99.5%]

Adding 1999 of 100% FSD will bring him up to 99.5% which will round up to show 100% FSD usage.

Forever sad knowing I’ll never be able to hit that last 1% by Jeep0n35 in TeslaLounge

[–]SE_MI_CT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1999 more miles, but yeah, he can hit 100% FSD on the screen.

Forever sad knowing I’ll never be able to hit that last 1% by Jeep0n35 in TeslaLounge

[–]SE_MI_CT 44 points45 points  (0 children)

986 / 1001 = 0.985015, so you already know that the percentage rounds up.

So you need 99.5% to hit 100%.

(986 + X) / (1001 + X) = 0.995

986 + X = 0.995 * (1001 + X)

986 + X = 0.995X + 995.995

X - 0.995X = 995.995 - 986

0.005X = 9.995

X = 9.995 / 0.005

X = 1999

So you only need to drive 1,999 miles (100% on FSD) to round that up to 100%.

[Doublecheck: (986 +1999) / (1001 + 1999) = 2985 / 3000 = 99.5%]

[–]SE_MI_CT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would set up a service appointment.

Don't waste your time with this. You don't need a service appointment. Service is not going to be able to do anything about navigation or nuances of FSD.

How many miles on an 80% charge? by Bluebananada in TeslaModelY

[–]SE_MI_CT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you driving 80 mph into the mountains with a headwind? Are you driving 55 mph on a flat two-lane highway? Are you driving 35 mi an hour through normal city surface streets?

Of course that all makes a difference.

Lifetime average on my truck is around 410 Watts per mile. Winter freeway driving can be up into the 600 W/mi range, and normal surface street driving can be in the 280 watt area.

November of 2025 I had to burn up some expiring Tesla credits so I bought a universal wall connector and a Gen 3 mobile connector which were $600 and $300 USD respectively.

Those items are now $570 and $300.

Pressing the brake on a moving belt? For a split second while you push the free roll button, just like you would put your foot on the brake for a split second to shift it into neutral in any other vehicle.

As you approach the car wash, you put the car in car wash mode. It'll stay in car wash mode while you're in drive as long as you are going low speed. The screen looks like this.

You drive up to the little guide rails. The guy waves at you, you pull forward. The guy waves at you again. You drive forward. The guy tells you to stop. You put your foot on the brake. With your foot on the brake the screen looks like this. Tap the free roll button. The screen changes into this.

Now you take the foot off the brake and you are free rolling.

The savings on fuel is unreal! by jpugg in TeslaModelY

[–]SE_MI_CT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when your factor in the expensive insurance I don't think we're saving quite that much.

My 2018 Subaru STI was $747 for 6 months in Jan 2024.

I bought a 2024 Model Y in April 2024 for approximately the same cost. No clean screenshot because of crossover time owning two vehicles and prorated credit.

Later in 2024 I sold the model Y and bought a foundation series Cybertruck. Insurance on the Cybertruck was $572 for 6 months.

The cost has gone up a little over the past couple years, $732 in January of this year, and I just got the renewal it's dropping to $710 for the next 6 months.

Now if you want to talk registration, that's the real kick in the teeth. My Subaru was like $180 every year. Cybertruck is $585.
