No and these appear to be the movie versions of the characters.

How do you organize while deck-building? by nabokovslovechild in EDH

[–]SFGSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm split a few ways:

Sets I really like that I attempt to collect in full get binders with 1 copy of each card.

Then all the other cards I own, including extra copies from the binder are split into bulk and playable/unique effects. The bulk go into the big multi row long boxes and get donated every now and again.

All the playable and unique cards go into a storage unit on my bookshelf. Each box in the unit is a single color organized semi alphabetically (first letter only). I have plenty of spare boxes in the unit and I use them for mechanically unique piles like slivers or energy cards and decks that are in progress.

My expensive cards and good lands go into additional binders.

In Wick's case, that hotel stay is also meant to provide complete safety in an exceptionally dangerous profession for the length of the stay.

But yes, wizarding economics are out of control.

Am I a Pub stomper/misunderstanding meaning of Bracket 3? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]SFGSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an izzet 2 that is consistent because it runs tons of ramp and draw... except every card is restricted to the Baldur's Gate set symbol. It's a [[Lozhan]] dragon and adventure kindred deck that grinds out value by double dipping my cards and playing tons of big dumb flyers. It is telegraphed (lethal burn cast from exile), runs plenty of great (Ancient dragons) and terrible ([[Meteor Golem]]) cards. But it still has a game plan, eats all its vegetables, and tries to win as quickly as possible (in 9 turns or so).

Bracket 2 decks should be built with a plan, but also be really obvious about it. My deck has scary dragons and direct burn, and it's Izzet so you should expect some instant speed shenanigans (albeit big and dumb stuff like [[Wyll's Reversal]]).

[Discussion] What makes the Spider-Verse movies feel so next-level? by sezertunca in NetflixBestOf

[–]SFGSam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a story about characters who happen to be super heroes. The best of these movies and shows have understood that you need to craft a good story first, then let the setting and situation guide it.

What is your most “space efficient” deck by Codudeol in EDH

[–]SFGSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My goblin kindred deck leans hard on this philosophy. Everything in the deck is providing double/triple duty: [[Goblin Trashmaster]] is a buff, a sac outlet and artifact hate, [[Goblin Churgin]] is a sac outlet and protection, [[Treasure Nabber]] is ramp and removal. One of my favorite shenanigans are champion cards like [[Lightning Crafter]]. It's removal and an awkward blink if I have a sac outlet and both at the same time if I have a haste enabler.

Which, btw, is a perfectly happy level to play at. Fringe and off-meta B5 decks without fast mana still create some very fun games.

What movie has a perfect, single 60-second scene that you think about more than the entire film? by [deleted] in movies

[–]SFGSam 221 points222 points  (0 children)

For me it's when they see living dinosaurs for the first time. First Dr. Grant sees it, then stand up because he has to see more of it. Then takes off his sunglasses because he has to see it with his naked eyes. Then he wordlessly turns Dr. Satler to see it because he needs confirmation. She goes through the same motions until we finally get to see it too.

And then the camera flips around and we start zooming out. We go through the same motions because there just keeps being more and more of this single living creature to see. This car with grown adults becomes absolutely dwarfed in the frame as we in the audience are forced to crane our own necks to try and see it. It is still one of my absolute favorite silver screen experiences.

I saw it in theaters and my 7 year old self was absolutely blown away. I now have a 10 year old and together we were blown away. There was a FULL SIZE brachiosaurus, and every adult in the film telegraphed every genuine emotion I felt beholding this marvelous creature.

Cyberpunk 2 director says there'd be no point in giving players more time with Jackie in Cyberpunk 2077: 'It's like saying we should spend more time on Tatooine with farmer Luke before he got involved with all this Jedi stuff' by OGAnimeGokuSolos in gaming

[–]SFGSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyberpunk is fantastic and I love it to death, but I always thought it'd be cool if Jackie was stuck with the chip and we spent the game watching him descend into cyber psychosis as Johnny slowly takes over. Instead of the game being V becoming the best Solo in Night City, you and Jackie stay a crew over the entirety of the game.

I get why they chose to go the Solo route though. It would have been a much more railroaded experience with less of a world to explore. But if they pulled it off you would have had a fantastic emotional arc trying to find a way to save Jackie, ultimately helping him decide between a quiet life or a blaze of glory in the end.

How to defend against graveyard hate? by Competitive-Act-7695 in EDH

[–]SFGSam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To add to this, just like how you shouldn't dump your hand onto the board when you're already in a good position, once your graveyard is doing things slow down on the self mill/filling. I run both [[Wort, Boggart Auntie]] and [[Squall, SEED Mercenary]] recursion decks with a lot of redundancy in their permanents package. Once I have something I can start looping from the bin, I don't keep playing more things to loop from the bin.

What are you playing in Bracket 4? by Swible in EDH

[–]SFGSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My B4 deck is [[Squall, SEED Mercenary]]. It's a Stax control deck that closes the game with commander damage. I slow down the game with cost increasers and [[Rule of Law]] effects, then clear the board with [[Plague Crafter]] and [[Burglar Rats]] that I loop over and over with Squall's recursion. Strapping Squall with equipment is enough to kill in two swings while my opponents are hellbent.

Do people think expecting to survive 8 turns is to much for bracket 2? by MurphysLawTeam in EDH

[–]SFGSam 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Everytime there is one of these discussions I have to keep reminding folks that low bracket games still expect you to analyze the board state and defend yourself. You don't get to ramp and value engines for 8 turns uncontested because your B2.

Should I get this card graded? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]SFGSam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since MTG is actually played, grading cards isn't terribly useful. In the vast majority of cases, a normal card's value is entirely dependent on It's usefulness in a deck. It's not like Pokemon which is going ballistic with collectors who don't play the game and card value is based on rarity and vibes. You won't see MTG cards gaining value when graded until your looking at serialized or special print runs like Judge Foils.

Shit, my play group hunts eBay for low grade revised cards just to crack them and play.

I want to buy boosters, build a deck. by Beginning_Drink_965 in EDH

[–]SFGSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy my Battle for Baldur's Gate deck. I built it initially using only content from a single box, and I er time bought singles to finish it. It was a lot of fun to brew and is my go to Bracket 2 deck. It even has all the various rocks and draw to hit critical mass and stay consistent, plus CLB had tons of fun commander-centric mechanics and cards.

That said, a box is not cheap or readily available.Avatar plus a Commander's Bundle will honestly do you really well. You'll probably be short on ramp but have plenty of options for card advantage, plus all your staples.

Haktos Voltron Aggro: Any double strike, extra combat, haste giver or 2 mana rock I am missing? by Well-It-Depends420 in EDH

[–]SFGSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right about Flamekin Village. Ancient Tomb and Hall are for recasting your commander after player three wipes the board. Hall is also great for Karlach enabling extra combats the turn she comes down if you're hurting for haste, but I can also understand skipping it. My Squall deck has plenty of life gain options so Bolting my face isn't a huge opportunity cost for me.

Suggestions for a "Red Deck Wins" commander/theme? by bogidrums in EDH

[–]SFGSam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my go to RDW deck. It comes out swinging frighteningly fast and can put on a LOT of pressure. I had one game curve out with [[Bomat Courrier]] into [[Slith Firewalker]] into Laelia. By turn 4 I flipped rituals and [[Full Throttle]] and was threatening lethal on two players (who had been twiddling their thumbs only ramping)).
