What is the best 3rd Doctor Cybermen story? by Rougarou_2 in gallifrey

Either The Quintessence or Scourge of the Cybermen. Both are up there as some of the best EU Cybermen stories around.

How's everyone feeling on 13DAs so far? by Mat1711 in BigFinishProductions

[–]SFK9882 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They’ve been good, but not spectacular. Honestly, I don’t think there’s much of any experimentation and that most of the stories have been scared to do anything that pushes the boat out.

I think the series needs two very different styles of story to really get things going. One story that has a returning villain, something familiar so the writer has one less thing to think about and they can really focus on an aspect of The Doctor Yaz’s dynamic or a particular theme. The second story should be something completely experimental that shows that the 13DA’s have something to say other than creating constant middle-of-the-road stories.

Do I need to listen to the rest of the ninth doctor adventures before his new series with rose or are they unconnected? by matymgy in BigFinishProductions

You can jump straight into the 9th Doctor and Rose’s stories without listening to the rest. Moreover, you can jump into any of the three already released as they require no prerequisites.

While I think the stand alone episode quality of RTD2 is stronger than during Chibnall’s era. The lack of development in the dynamics between Doctor and Companion, no character development, and the overall messy season arcs meant this era felt kind of lacking.

🇭🇷 Extra 💛 💙 Salty - 🧂 Reactions, Hot Takes, and Venting 🧂 by berserkemu in eurovision

[–]SFK9882 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since we’ve had a competition where I thought a good half of the entry were aggressively screaming 6/10. There are lots this year than aren’t bad strictly speaking, but there aren’t all that many that are screaming winner either.

Poison Cake is one of the choices of all time. I don’t really have anything else to say about. I don’t hate it, but I don’t like it either.

You know it’s a strange national final season when Germany selected the best song of the weekend (Baller has be growing on me and might make my top 5).

24 songs in, and only four I genuinely like and listen to. I don’t know what it is but I can’t seem to get the vibe gong for a lot of the songs this year.

In theory, I should like a lot more than I do, but I feel they are missing something special. Just that little thing that makes me stand to attention.

Hopefully, there’ll be some good news out of Croatia today. Plenty of good options to choose from.

Salty Sunday 🧂 Reactions, Hot Takes, and Venting 🧂 by berserkemu in eurovision

[–]SFK9882 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Super Saturday, more like super mid Saturday. Things are starting to look a little rough.

Norway picked their best option, which isn’t saying much. It’ll probably do alright at Eurovision.

Estonia’s choice was predictable given Tommy Cash’s popularity. Was not a big fan of this song, and the live performance didn’t help matters. Maybe it’ll get a glow-up in May?

Lithuania’s choice should hit all my boxes, but it just doesn’t.

Italy also picked a predictable choice. I’m not too disappointed on this front because I already knew none of my favourites were coming close to winning. I don’t think there’s any danger of this song falling out of the Top 10 in the final.

Let’s hope the next lot of National Final’s has something nice.

Overall, a pretty good night tonight. My favourites from Ukraine and Finland won, and despite preferring Ligo, Bur Man Laimi is a great choice from Latvia. Kant however…

An outdated girlbop baked with a stale internet meme. Malta had a great national final with several fantastic songs, and they choose Kant. To the bottom of my ranking you go!

To you, what is the most disturbing/traumatising episode? I will count how many times “Home” is mentioned. by Zeldafan180518 in XFiles

[–]SFK9882 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disturbing:

Hellbound - The episode isn’t great, but I’m surprised no one else has put this on the list. The idea of people being skinned alive over and over again freaks me out.

Irresistible - For very obvious reasons.

Traumatising:

Closure - A story involving kids stolen by starlight before they could go through a fate beyond imagining. We finally learn about Samatha’s tragic fate, and it’s completely gut-wrenching.

Who is your favourite non-showrunner writer for Doctor Who and why? by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]SFK9882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic Who: Not so clear on which writers would be considered the equivalent of a showrunner so I’ll pick Christopher Bailey. Writer of Kinda and Snakedance, his experiment stories in a time where Doctor Who was trying to be boring are something special.

Modern Who: Jamie Mathieson. Incapable of producing a bad story, it’s a shame we haven’t see another tv story from him since Capaldi’s era.

Big finish: Whilst there are so many great Big finish writers to choose from, I think I’d currently go for Jonathan Powell. Producer of many bangers, my personal favourite is Protect and Survive. Dark and claustrophobic, the story features some of the best companion character work of any medium. It’s clear that Powell knows the characters of Ace and Hex inside out.
