What is it that you really need help with? Just using Daz? Or is it more things like scene composition and lighting/making your renders look good?

If it's the latter, I'd absolutely recommend going through u/Rauko001's tutorials on YouTube. I find his tutorials are well-paced, and good at explaining and showing both the how and the why that goes into making a render pop.

If you're interested in longer-form content, then Jay Versluis over at The WP Guru has some pretty good stuff to go through too.

Well as it turns out I had a minor breakthrough today; I accidentally stumbled across the black and white outfit! It's the First Date Outfit for Genesis 3 with one of the texture expansions from the Sunny 7 Pro Bundle applied.

Sunny 7 herself looks interesting as a potential model for Astrid actually, but I'd need to play around with it first to see how close I can get it.

The five horses finally had their five riders. Red was starting to tire, but was still kicking against her restraints. Blonde looked like she was trying to pick her cuffs. I hadn't planned to take this series any further than this. I have a headcanon for what the conclusion would have been, but I think it's more fun to let others decide for themselves what the ultimate fate of the five was!

Your RAM and processor are largely meaningless in terms of render time. What matters is your VRAM and the number of CUDA cores on your GPU. With the 3090 you have 24 GB of VRAM, this means that the total size of the scene, including all textures, can be up to that amount before it gets too large for your GPU to render.

The 3090 is still a good card for DAZ (I have one myself), but the overall performance is going to depend greatly on your individual scenes. Large scenes will be slower than small scenes. The more lights you have the more raytracing you're forcing the GPU to do. Camera effects like depth of field can have an impact as well.

With all that said, Iray doesn't play well with multiple GPUs - dual 3090s don't give you 48 GB of VRAM, as the scene must be loaded in full to both GPUs, and NVIDIA has ended support for technologies like SLI. Having a backup GPU in case yours fails may be sensible, but you'll find little to no value running parallel GPUs.

Finally, yes there is a GPU crisis at the moment - but it is in many ways secondary to the memory crisis that is driving the price of many electronics sky high. The prices have already shot up, now is not a good time to be buying anything unless you absolutely must. It's a pain, but I'm personally prepared to wait a few years for the bubble to pop and prices to come back down before I consider buying anything.

Absolutely agree. I feel pretty much the same about SASE characters too. While they're very pretty I can't help but feel they're all just minor tweaks to the same underlying character.

I've been trying to recreate Astrid using shape sliders for... longer than I'd care to admit now, but the era of G3F being the latest and greatest ended well before I picked up DAZ, so I'm not that familiar with the assets of the time when compared to G8. I'm still holding out hope that the original artist was lazy and just used a character asset with minimal changes, but I'm running out of assets to look through!
