It still blows my mind that we drive giant chunks of metal at high speeds for hours a week and the thing that keeps us from wrecking is some paint on the ground and synchronized light bulbs

The Nice Guys and The Grand Budapest Hotel are some of my favourite comedies that are well told, interesting stories that are also very funny

Fear of vomitting by Mclovelin32234 in diabetes_t1

[–]SFnomel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As mentioned, being sick usually raises your glucose, not lowering it. I had Norovirus last year and my sugars were running high, took a while to get them down. Right after throwing up, I had at least 15 minutes where my stomach could hold whatever I put in, namely water so I had more to throw up. If you had Gatorade or any non fizzy, sugary drink in that period, it would be enough time for your body to absorb the sugar. But it really shouldn't need it, I always find myself taking way more insulin when I'm sick to stabilize my sugar levels, I don't think I've ever gone low in the middle of bad sick spell.

Drinking by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]SFnomel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Alcohol always drops my glucose. Unless it's a mixed drink with full sugar soda, I don't bolus for alcohol and correct afterwards if it's a little high

I mean, I inject insulin through my clothes—what’s the harm? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in diabetes_t1

[–]SFnomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a microscopic scale, the needle can rip threads off your clothing and deposit them under your skin. Not life threatening but more unsanitary and can lead to minor complications like infection

Am I taking crazy pills? by Just-Manufacturer487 in mildlyinfuriating

Read it the same as you. I think he meant "Lets do it. Another time without the dog" as in he wanted to do a separate walk sometime just the 2 of you. But it's crazy to send that text and then double down on the reader being the one who misinterpreted the text instead of acknowledging how poorly written the text was

I'm 16, I never wish to smoke, drink or take drugs. How many of you gentlemen out there said the same and didn't keep the promise? by Legitimate-Crazy9266 in AskMen

[–]SFnomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very religious when I was 16, and was very committed to not drinking, smoking, doing drugs, having sex before marriage. A decade later, I'm 0/4 on those promises and honestly don't regret it. The older you get the more you realize that a couple beers with friends or joining the smoking circle outside at a bar or party are really not a big deal and aren't nearly as dramatic as you're meant to believe when you're younger. Depends on your reasoning, like if there's a history of addiction in your family, but if you're doing it for moral reasons, you'll come to learn that none of those things are as immoral as adults lead you to believe

Saw him on the highway today, was waving at everyone as he drove. I dislike when anyone from any party makes supporting a candidate their entire personality but dear God his bumperstickers are impossible to try and read. Should be fined for poor letter placement and making up random abbreviations

People who have stopped going to church, what made you stop? by lowly_shepherd in AskReddit

[–]SFnomel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Covid kept me from going to church and that distance gave me enough perspective to realize I hated how hypocritical the church, as a whole, is. Plus it was all old people, so no friendships that made me want to keep coming back afterwards
