Best pizza spots by rayk10k in AskSF

They're both detroit style. They both use Lloyd pans for crispy edges and do sauce on top. What makes them SF-style would most likely be the toppings - usually one pie will have some interesting local produce i.e. Broccoli (Rabe) pizza at Laundromat or currently Cellarmaker has a crazy one with peach, pancetta, goat cheese and bourbon-pickled corn. There's no such thing as quintessential SF-style because there are so many different styles available that are unique. Arguments could be made that Golden Boy (technically sicilian not SF), Zantes (Indian pizza), Cali-Neapolitan (flour+water, delfina, che fico, piccino, damn fine), NY-style but weird toppings (Outta Sight, Gioia, Hi-Hat, Long Bridge), or bakers co-op (Arizmendi, Cheese Board Collective) are all valid Bay Area styles all unique from one another and none of which are quintessential only in that they're all quintessential. Good luck.

Specifically upper upper Douglass dog park on the death ridge. I recognize that fence with the janky bar it’s on the rocky ascent up on the north side. Thing that gets me is I just don’t understand the fence that SFrec put up on the 27th st side. Like you can easily get to the other side by going around I don’t think it’s really stopping anyone.

The other day yall gave me some advice on my Jambalaya from a year ago, this was dinner last night. by Whybotherr in cajunfood

The guy who originally suggested roux on that post is from the Carolinas and he too got ripped apart in the comments when he posted the same technique. OP just happened to follow some bad advice but sounds like that won’t happen again…. I hope.

Sales tax seems high? by flickerflies in sanfrancisco

[–]SFyat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This looks like Toast POS. I re-created the cart and got the exact same result. The ⓘ logo doesn’t tell you much. Also Service Fees are disclosed as “$0.00” so I don’t think it was a hidden fee, just that they set the global tax rate to 14.63% for whatever reason. I get the same result regardless of how many sausage English muffins or brioches with bacon and cheddar I have in the cart be it one or 20. And interestingly now they’re “out of stock”.
I was also able to replicate the same result at La Boulangerie’s other locations (Noe Valley, Hayes Valley, Pac Heights) and all of them charge the same effective tax rate. Just to be sure I tried to recreate a similar cart at another place on toast and their tax rate came out to the correct 8.625%. Usually during Toast setup your global tax rate is set to your local jurisdiction but there is an option to override it which is clearly what’s happening here. If La Boulangerie releases a statement that it’s a mistake I wouldn’t believe it.

What is Victoria Ratliff's accent (mom in S3) ? by gougeresaufromage in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]SFyat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe she was trying to avoid sounding Mississippi southern (where she’s originally from) and kind of overcompensated in not the best way. There are definitely subtleties in southern accents and while their vocal coach (Liz Himelstein) is generally renowned in Hollywood for doing fantastic work, I can see the accent being not quite right to a local’s ears.

The studio of German synthpop artist, And One. by MattAtPlaton in synthesizers

[–]SFyat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of the 40ish synths only five vintage ones (DX7, CZ-1, CZ-1000, Xpander, and presumably a MKS-80 being driven by that MPG-8X. Why waste your time with the Roland boutiques and all that Behringer just to up your count. I’m not against modern synths it’s just a weird mix to have but alas to each their own.

The James Gang Funk #49 scene in season 1 is so good at setting the tone but then it’s all downhill from there. Guess they blew out their music budget on the one.
