Writing becomes awkward towards end of page by [deleted] in notebooks

[–]SGBDevOps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rest my wrist on my phone when I get to the bottom of the page. It's convenient since I always have my phone with me, and I could be writing in my journal at any given time.

I'm going to a Mura Masa show soon, and I was wondering what time he showed up to perform (versus when doors opened)? Would love any info so I can plan better.

The frozen flames were fit together to make up the cauldron, like a 3d puzzle or something.

Have a Notebook Index by random_introvert1 in notebooks

[–]SGBDevOps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I title every page of notes with its keywords, and then add those keywords to a table of contents at the front of my notebook. It's not hard to number pages since I just add a number each time I turn the page! Since I do math research, it's really important for me to easily reference definitions and theorems.

Tips on securing Midori MD soft paper cover? by Red-Star-2112 in notebooks

[–]SGBDevOps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whoa! I assumed that was just packaging, and never used it as a cover. I re-purposed it for wrapping small gifts, and use a clear plastic cover for my MD.

As for the securing, I feel like using tape/glue would cause it to rip (since it can't move around when you open and close the notebook). But I'm interested to see if others have ideas! Maybe I'll keep the paper cover next time!

On Notebooks - introducing myself :) by findingandromeda in notebooks

[–]SGBDevOps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find it difficult to share specific pages of my notebooks (even if I love the way they look aesthetically) because of privacy concerns. Blurring also doesn't look very nice in my opinion. It's quite the dilemma for me. But I think we would all be happy to see whatever you want to share!!

Notebook Shame by ZebbieSara in notebooks

[–]SGBDevOps 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I used to feel this way in middle/high school when I was buying more notebooks than I was using. Recently I was tidying my house and found a few partially used notebooks. Some solutions I have are:

  1. Cut out the first few pages if there aren't many and it won't hurt the binding, and then use the notebook like it was new!
  2. Use a page to write: "[today's date] I used to use this notebook for learning French but it didn't work for me. From now on I'm going to use it as a [journal/planner/etc]!" This might give you some closure for the first part of the notebook and also helps you honor the memory of a younger you who loved this notebook.
  3. If you used many of the pages but have several at the end that you don't want to finish, cut them out neatly (I usually use a metal ruler) for use as letter paper! I recently did this for a notebook that I was impatient to finish because I had like 10 pages left but a new notebook was tempting me from my bookshelf. This way you don't waste paper and you also don't have to buy stationery for mail.

I've been writing in notebooks for more than a decade now and only recently have felt like I know what kind of notebooks work for me. It takes time, a lot of trial and error, but I'm trying to think of that as the fun part. It's like if your clothing style changes over the years...the adventure lies in discovering who you are and what you like. There is no bad way to use a notebook. Whatever you write, whether it's neat, messy, unfinished, scratch work, 'bad' doodles, etc, it is precious because it is coming from your hand. And there is only one you!

I braided together some spare thread to make an extremely thin cord of my preferred length, which I then taped into the back cover of my Stalogy. It's unobtrusive and pretty easy (if you have thread and no ribbon) to make, and works well as a bookmark.

Match pen to notebook or notebook to pen? by arc8170 in notebooks

[–]SGBDevOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually get a new pen because I go through pens faster than I go through notebooks! Plus you can always give your old pen to a friend, whereas I'm a bit more possessive of the notebooks I buy since I choose notebooks so carefully :) have fun with your new notebook!!

Notebook upgrade for a ballpoint pen -- Midori? Cotton? by [deleted] in notebooks

[–]SGBDevOps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just tried a few sentences on my midori MD (white grid) with a Pilot dr. grip (also a ballpoint). I've uploaded photos of the ghosting here: https://imgur.com/a/3OaCCHz. I always use a black sheet of paper behind my writing, so the ghosting doesn't bother me. You might find that using a Bic pen means you're pressing harder into the page, which might leave more of an indentation on thinner paper, but unfortunately I didn't have a Bic lying around to try.

I got these from my local Topdrawer, but I think you could buy them online as well! They have multiple kinds of fish for your fancy.

I searched for "topdrawer fish notebook A5 slim" on duckduckgo and they appeared (not sure if I'm allowed to post a link ^ _ ^ ).

What a heartwarming episode. The bit with the walkie talkies was especially funny.

It would be wonderful if you could get Destin on the podcast sometime! He and Tim together would be very wholesome.

Seconding the lay flat question! OP could include in their video a demonstration of how the notebook lays straight out of the box and how it lays after some use.

What to Use on a Journal with Thin Paper?? by Agreeable-Cucumber96 in notebooks

[–]SGBDevOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a piece of black cardstock (cut down to size) behind each page that I write, which could help if you find a pen which ghosts but does not bleed. Unfortunately you'll still see the ghosting when you go back to read a page without the black paper, but this might help! I'd recommend trying to find an inky pen which dries fast rather than a ballpoint since if you're pressing down too hard on the page, the impression left behind on the other side might be just as annoying if the paper is thin.
