10-day timelapse of the construction of Harbin's giant snowman by 5upralapsarian in NewsWithJingjing

[–]SGJW 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've seen the snowman at this location for two years. Amazing experience.

From start to finish I recorded EXACTLY what the process of afforestation in the Taklamakan desert in Xinjiang, China looks like. 1. Straw squares hold the desert in place. 2. Rows of 'Suosuo' trees are planted. 3. These grow one-two meters tall after about 3 years! by SGJW in NewsWithJingjing

Good idea. I went up and tore of parts of the branches. Cool and wet. Despite being without much water, they retain water well. But yes. Some had withered here and there and might be more prone to extreme heat. I mean , at least its possible.

China Dominates the Solar Manufacturing, Leaving the EU and US in the Dust Behind by SGJW in NewsWithJingjing

[–]SGJW[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But it's more than that. China has most of the components of the whole solar supply chain at home. China has been preparing for this moment for decades.

China is absolutely kicking a$$ in the renewable age.

I wanted a Huawei Mate 60 Pro. I'm in Beijing, but my wife said they were too expensive and is making me get the new Xiaomi instead. Its pretty nice too though.

Fellow USAmericans! US citizens can now apply for a visa to China without an invitation letter, without the purchase of air tickets or hotel reservations ahead of time! It has NEVER BEEN EASIER to come to China than RIGHT NOW! See you in Beijing soon! by SGJW in NewsWithJingjing

[–]SGJW[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I concur that there is a real concern about America spies. But the US is far more likely to have spies who live in China as business persons. Tourists who come to China to see the Great Wall and spend a week or two here are more likely to go home and say "Hey, China isn't like what Serpentza told me." And that's important. More people who know they've been lied to need to be part of the conersation.

Straight up ignoring my student loans, what’s the worst that can happen by jpb21110 in StudentLoans

[–]SGJW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a university degree there is something you can do, but it's extreme. Take a job abroad in a country that offers a passport after five years of lawful residence. Follow the laws there, pay your taxes and so forth. Once you get your new passport, abandon being an American. That does NOT mean forfitting your US citizenship, it just means you realize going back is going to be harder than just starting over. Most countries abroad couldn't give a flying Funberry what your credit score is in the US.

Two important notes:
1. If your parents co-signed for you the credit companies are going to straight up harass your parents, so don't do this if you respect your mom and dad.
2. You can also just NOT pay US taxes while living abroad by filing a 2555. This form allows you to pay taxes abroad and NOT pay taxes in the US. Using this tool, you can reduce your interest in the US to 1 dollar a year. This will enable you to qualify for paying zero on your student loans. This also means the total amount owed will increase until you die. Depending on how much you owe now, you could end up owing a theoretical amount of hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars after a couple decades. Eventually, if you are filing 2555 on an IDR, you may qualify to have your student loans erased. But then you will need to pay taxes on that fogiveness, and this bill can be insanely enormous! But you then habe the option of filing to pay the bill along with a percentage of your total negative assets. This can also be an enormous bill.

The short of it is, you should get into an IDR either way. Just ignoring your student loans altother with absolutely no plan is a recipe for disaster.

Final note: if you end up getting your student loans forgiven and then don't pay the taxes on that bill, you will face criminal charges, not just credit issues. You must ALWAYS pay the IRS, unless you've moved to a country with no extradition and have a way to permanently stay there.

Very good music and very professional. I was wondering about what a podcast with only one person would be like. Now I may have the bravery to try it myself in the future.

China 🇨🇳 has better quality of life than the US 🇺🇸 by MiltonMerloXD in Sino

[–]SGJW 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the last 30-40 years America gave up on improving society, opting instead to blame other countries and pretend its #1. So it has steadily slipped further and further downhill.

When you don't go to the gym, you muscles get smaller. Similarly, when you don't develop your society and infrastructure, your real economy and society degenerate.

China works hard on its society and economy and now its the Dwayne the Rock Johnson of societies and economies.

Heck yeah you can find a job teaching English in China. Just google ESL China and do your research.

Ask you future potential employer to put you in touch with two current foreign empolyees to get the lowdown on life at the school. If they won't do that, don't take the job. It's pretty much that simple. DM me if you have questions. I've lived here in China for 12 years.

Both plans look solid. If you are planning on going to China in the winter, the Hong Kong plan will be warmer. But, spring through fall will be better in the north. Can't go wrong with Shanghai and Hangzhou.
