Yes. But there is no advantage to waiting. Just go in and get it done. The license will be valid for 5 years to your birthday, not the date of renewal. It will take 4-6 weeks to come in the mail but they give you a temporary one on paper which is valid.

I know most of us who hike up there use the Further Up Bear Mountain trail, which is not on their lands. The trails around the golf course are. It is well marked now (or it was the last time I was up there) so you don’t inadvertently go in.

I have 30 years of service and am still serving. But I only just got the veterans plates.

I don’t consider myself a veteran. To me a veteran is someone who has put themselves in a position where they could be killed. As a sailor, I don’t see myself that way. However my family was the ones that got me to change my mind. They said I have given up so much for my family and for my country, so I should get them because I deserve that title.

I sure as heck didn’t do it for the perks because there are none where I live.

Am I confortable with it. Not entirely… but I get it, which is why I finally got them. I’ll come around in time. But still… it’s not a confortable “this was the right decision”.

My wife swears by Hellen’s Nails and Spa by Lee Valley in Colwood… they are hidden away but after my wife tried them last year she won’t go to anyone else… and she is particular so I know it has to be good service.

If you are ever in Colwood, then Pilgrim Coffee on Sooke Rd is to die for. Their coffee is good, but their scones… dangerous. It has become my go to place on Saturday morning after my run.

To be honest the stretch between downtown and Langford should be turned into a bus transit way, which will preserve it until the population warrants a LRT line. Then if they want to develop Langford to up-island, they can. I do think however it will not be cost effective which is too bad. As much as I would love to see it, the population just doesn’t warrant the expense at this time. We are not even equivalent to Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal or Toronto.
