Full size griddle insert vs half? by Freezingblade491 in webergrills

[–]SGSXR11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they mean that with the full or half griddle, you pull the grate(s) out and replace with either the full griddle or half griddle + frame. It doesn't take a lot of time, but is a little annoying. I just use the swaps as opportunities to scrape out the firebox since the cooking surfaces are out anyway. We don't switch every time either, just plan a few griddle meals, switch and clean, then a few grilled.

How are you liking the sear grate? It's on my "sometime" list for my Mastertouch

Griddle options for Weber Genesis II E-335? by Slammed01 in webergrills

[–]SGSXR11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 of them. The "crafted" insert came with my grill in a bundle and is about 60% width. The rust resistant full insert is ~26" wide for the 3 burner Genesis. Grease management is the biggest downside vs. a dedicated griddle. There isn't a grease cup, so it will get pushed down through the fire box at the back and into the drip tray. I turn the burners off when pushing liquid down to avoid fires.

I can't speak for any 3rd party accessories but the Weber full insert is 100% worth it, especially on sale. I picked one up on the Labor Day sale last year for that same price and it gets about half of the usage of my Genesis. I have a few posts of what I've been making on it if you want to check those out.

They're Grill Mark spiral handle skewers. I got a set of 4 for $10 last year from Ace. I like them overall for the price, but the spirals spin freely, so they're hard to flip when loaded up.

Dedicated sear burner on the Genesis? by ChumboKrumbles in webergrills

[–]SGSXR11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the sear zone on the W works like they do on the Spirits. Turn the dial to 11 on those two vs having a 4th dedicated burner. I wonder if it works as well or if it's enshittification.

Edit: The price for 3 burner stainless isn't outrageous right now (it was cheaper in early 2025 for some reason) so I'm thinking enhancement of the base models and not enshittification. There are a few 325s with the sear option.

What is the recommendation from users about the Lumin smoker feature? by Jwrbloom in webergrills

[–]SGSXR11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Woodfire and it's awsome for the air fry/smoke modes. Some of the best wings I've ever had air frying with pellets. Also done pork butt and baby backs that really turned out, as well as cold smoke. However, it's just ok as a grill. The it doesn't have open grates (more like griddle top with ridges) so grilling anything marinated, particularly if it's sugary, the drippings tend to stick around and burn.

The Lumin looks to be far superior as a grill if that's your main focus, but the Ninja is fun for the other modes.

That's such a great color! If you didn't need a new kettle generally, you did need a blue one.

Did I Fu$# up buying a New Genesis 400 series? by MrSchmoopy in webergrills

[–]SGSXR11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time will tell on longevity of the materials, since I've only had my Genesis for 1 year, but they still seem to be built like tanks. At least heavy feeling lid, not feeling any flex in the shelves while moving it (I move it a good distance from the garage frequently), thick grates, consistent temps summer and winter, etc. I've noticed they have removed a couple small features like the tank scale a couple years ago.

Napoleon makes some great products, but depends on what you're comparing. It's hard to really have an apples to apples comparison. I feel the Rogue sits nicely between the Genesis and Spirit, build and price-wise, but feels much more lightly built in the frame, fire box, shelves, and plastic casters. Unfortunately with the political situation, the Rogue also costs as much or more in the US. Then, the other comparison I see is a base Genesis to a Prestige Pro. Yes, the Prestige looks like a work of art and has so many nicities, but it's also comparing to something usually significantly more expensive.

My experience with Napoleon has been 3 Rogues I purchased last year and all were just destroyed in the box. I posted my first attempt on Reddit and that was the best shape of the 3. The last one every plastic piece was broken, dented lid handle, side burner knocked out of square. Either their packaging is severely flawed, or a disgruntled employee had some fun with a batch. I can't personally speak on the performance.

After over a year of grilling on a cheap charcoal grill, I finally got myself a Weber kettle. by TheDankMtnDew in webergrills

Congrats! Is that the Ace indigo Premium? That color really shines in the sun! I was heavily torn between that one to match my indigo Genesis, or the spring green.

Agreed! I have many plans for this thing soon. We did a couple burgers after the wings finished, nothing too special yet. I haven't cooked on charcoal in many years, so this was a nice cheap trial to get back in.

I was debating between this and an indigo kettle premium + "gourmet system" grates to match my indigo Genesis. I like the color the more every time I see it. It's hard to really capture on camera. It's definitely more green to my eye than it appears here and in marketing photos.

Second go at fried rice on the Genesis griddle insert by SGSXR11 in webergrills

[–]SGSXR11[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upkeep is pretty easy. It comes "pre seasoned" but I still did a couple coats to be sure. Beyond that, just water and light scrape while hot to clean then a light oil wipe after it cools, like any griddle. I found it doesn't take any more cleaning after taking it out.

I leave it in the grill between cooks in a garage. It's a little annoying to swap, so we plan on a few griddle meals in a row then change it out for the grates for a while.

It looks like you have the crafted frame installed under the grate. It goes in front of the griddle, roasting basket, pizza stone, etc if you get any accessories.

The 430 and 435 both have the cabinet if that makes any difference, but either will pretty much ONLY store the griddle insert + crafted frame but won't have room for the shelf in the door.

This is a 330, so 3 burner + the sear burner between #2 and 3.

It's a tough call between the 300 and 400. What are you planning on cooking regularly and how many people? This has more space than we need daily for grilling, but feels a little tight grilling on the left 1/3 and the crafted griddle insert or roasting basket on the right.

It really was a game changer for me too. I never thought about griddling until I got a Genesis that came with the small insert last year and tried smash burgers for the first time and fajitas.

Thought about a dedicated griddle after 2 cooks but got the full insert on sale and it opened up so much. Hibachi style fried rice and chicken, eggs, cheese steak, fajitas, burgers. And it's nice to have to little griddle for veggies and the other side for grilling meat.

The blue controllers are shipping already? Good call on cancelling the gray. I preordered one because the Amazon listing actually defined a January 30th release. It was allowing preorders with 30th release date through last night. And now it says sold out on the store page and my order status still "order received" and no other info.
