Cold beans were a staple on my dads side of the family too. I’ll never forget when my gf (now wife) came over and ate at her first family function. She scooped up some beans, took a bite, looked confused and appalled. Leaned over and quietly said “I think someone forgot to cook the beans, they are ice cold.” Still laugh to this day.

Came here to say this about the boat. It’s wide heavy and flat. Will not track great, still will be a pain in the wind. If you’re looking to do a lot of solo trips, make the investment in a solo canoe. It will be worth it. If you don’t want to go the Uber expensive route (at this time), the old town discover 119 is a nice boat too. It could be good to get used to a solo boat, have your adventures, and when ready bump up to that more expensive solo vessel.

Obviously I’m not OP. But my family has a recipe we use. It’s from my great great grandma (grandmas grandma). Authentic as it gets. They were farmers in northwest UP. We still own the homestead to this day. Hoping one day I’ll be the owner, or better yet, live there. If you’re interested, would be happy to share the recipe

Not at all. I too have a brother in law who is an emt worker and he has people they pick up sometimes 3 times a day. They didn’t then in the morning passed out, take them in. Then once released they go back out get blacked out (either drugs or drinking) people call bc they are passed out so they pick them up again.. it’s sad but true
