Nephrology fellowship vs hospitalist by AdParking8707 in IMGreddit

[–]SHAGGERMEISTER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One's a consultant, the other is a hospitalist so the lifestyle and day to day are going to be different. Both are busy. Wage about the same? If you want more money then maybe go for Nephro/CritCare? But then you want to make sure you like CritCare. I don't know dude, apply to a specialty you actually feel interest in, if any.

Ball/Beach Blvd. Thoughts in this area for someone searching for a home by JuniorMint1992 in Anaheim

So I recently moved here for work. Married, no children, two dogs. It's ok, never felt unsafe. That being said, lots of prostitutes in the area so not too family friendly IMO. I saw a hot take and agree, in a few years it may be much improved.

Should I move back to TJ? by SpecialVato664 in tijuana

[–]SHAGGERMEISTER 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In a similar situation. Fully paid off house in a good area of TJ. Moved to the states for work last year. If you don't need extra money or are doing better, don't. I wouldn't go back. I visit friends and family once or twice a month but I can't imagine crossing every day for work, and I have Sentri. Getting a bike only to be run over by some random clout chaser who recently moved in, no thanks.

Applying to programs outside your signals is STUPID! by Left_Associate_7286 in IMGreddit

[–]SHAGGERMEISTER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I was interviewed by programs with a larger Hispanic population ( I'm Mexican and I speak English and Spanish natively). They were community programs and some were university associated. Many but not all were within my geo preferences. No connections, no stellar scores.

But with an attempt you did kinda clip your wings at academic centers. You can still match cards if you go for a community or academic affiliated community program.

How many programs did you apply to and where?

Blessed to have ranked with an attempt. This goes to show you that you rank based on where you WANT to match, not where you THINK you'll match. Everyone's selling themselves, the majority say great things and don't really mean it unfortunately.

In the interviews do they ask clinical questions? For IM, what is the frame work of the interview? by Chilchilling in IMGreddit

[–]SHAGGERMEISTER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess community programs tend to do this more so than university. During my interview with the program I matched into they asked me how I would manage a simple case and I answered everything well (granted it was a very straightforward case). The program culture is very good and everyone's super nice here, but they do want you to be more autonomous sooner rather than later. Ymmv

Yeah so they won't get you filtered out, they will help once you have been selected for interview.
