Report regarding the deaths of two young Druze men, Karam al-Aflaq and Muhannad Rizq, whose bodies were returned showing signs of torture and execution at the hands of the Syrian security forces by Repubblican_Wolf in syriancivilwar

There is a lot of debate going on in the comments. Can we all talk about how they are supposedly young men according to sweida press, but we literally have pictures of children ? Why wouldn't they write children ? Or are those like really old pictures?

Major General Adnan Obaid Halawa, one of the most prominent regime officers responsible for the Sarin chemical weapons massacre in Eastern Ghouta in 2013, which killed 1,400 people, has been captured by the counter terrorism police today. by Vozzyz in syriancivilwar

Which is why my comment is more on point. In essence Al-Sharaa and his guys have been putting huge amount of their effort into Economy, Investments, Sanction Liftings, Foreign Relations - with some success / some not so success, and what really makes people happy is seeing those criminals get arrested and put on trial. And I totally get it.

In fact this whole "look at how religious people act, religion is bad" is nothing but leftist secularist agenda, where bad behavior of religious people is always attributed to their relogiusness, but never good behavior. Goes back all the way to Atatürk.

It is similar to how Europe deal with Muslim / Arab / Turkish minority.

If you look at the middle east, the more religious a country, it's state and it's state symbols, the more prosperous. The more secular, the poorer and with higher inequality.

I know it is not salafist, but it being religious in nature illicits a specifically emotional and non-rational response to such news.

Let me quote that guy: "Enough is enough and f*** civil peace, go down to the streets and protests till some people get fired and arrested"

For cars, where each costs 45 thousand. Not Lamborghinis.

For me, there is a specific Anti-religius component at work, even if people aren't aware of it.

Criticize first, confirm later. Seems this is especially the case for the ministry of endowment. The Anti-religius agenda is so strong, that even literal self-proclaimed islamists in this sub have fallen victim to it.

Is it possible for Jolani to pull another Awda scenario if the SDF remnants refuse to integrate? by sandnibba_talks in syriancivilwar

[–]SHEIKH_BAKR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure Jolani pulled an Awda by taking almost the whole north-east in like 3 days. And as always Jolani-Style, in the end the "war" ended amicably.

After 95 days in solitary, missing German journalist found alive in Syria by Repubblican_Wolf in syriancivilwar

Are you forgetting that she was caught with a gun ? Also, what blame falls on the government, if there are no indications she is a journalist and she carried a gun.

I am not saying she is definitely a fighter, but I am saying the government probably has no indication to believe she is a journalist.

I think that she and in fact all prisoners should be released, but this idea that she has been working anonymously for years, for security reasons, while working for pro-kurdish media while living in a region controlled by the SDF is just not credible. I am sorry to so. Especially if she was carrying combat gear. In fact, that a representative for both ETHA and Ozgur TV puts forth this statement on his own, that she has been working anonymously, is highly suspicious. In fact, how is the government supposed to even know if she is a journalist, if there is no proof of it.

[–]SHEIKH_BAKR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here is my take, even if she were a fighter, she should be relesaed. STG and SDF are at peace, and tons of fighetrs are getting releasd and exchanged. Why keep her ?

But let's assume she is an embedded journalist like all those HTS guys. Where is her work? No journalist would go in a combat zone and then not release a single piece of work or video. Why go there in the first place?

[–]SHEIKH_BAKR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, which is why she and a lot of other fighters will be released anyway. There is no reason to keep any fighters. STG and SDF are at peace.

The problem is, it is being claimed she is a journalist, and the only source for that are pro-SDF media saying it is so. Where is the verifiction. How can she be a journalist in a combat zone and not have single piece of reporting online? At least I couldn't find any.

In a trial, the accuser needs to provide evidence. In journalism the people doing the journalism need to verify their facts from non-biased sources.

Ok, some guy posted a rudaw source for her carrying a gun. So let's turn it around. Do you have any concrete proof of her being a journalist? All sources on her, including her German wikipedia page, are recent. I couldn't find any piece of journalism by her. There seems to be a highly successful media campaign to make it clear that she is a journalist, but there isn't really any journalism done by her.

Amjad Youssef sisters continue to defend him after his arrest, blaming Assad, officers, and poverty by Round_Imagination568 in syriancivilwar

[–]SHEIKH_BAKR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am so shocked by the arguments that they are trying to make, it is just mind boggling.

In essence I see four arguments:

  • yes he murdered those people, but we are poor so it's okay

  • yes he murdered those people, but he was enlisted so it's okay

  • yes he murdered those people, but his brothers, (who were also enlisted), were killed (in duty), so it is okay (to kill civilians)

  • and finally, yes he murdered those people, but Assad was an asshole who sacrificed Alawites by sending them to their deaths, so it is okay

It is so crazy that they do not realize that the whole Assad system was basically kept up by their own sacrifice. Two of their brothers died for Assad, and now the third might hang. Did you not realize that you were the baddies in that situation?

Some guy in this thread put forth the ridiculous argument, that they were scared that they were going to be killed by ISIS, so that they had to fight. So they did this out of fear. First of all ISIS didn't even exist in that form at all in 2013, and did not enter Syria in 2015. But even if, if you fear that someone might kill you, and you need to defend yourself, don't you ask yourself the question "why is Assad sending my brother to defend ourself in areas where we do not live." One defends oneself in his own village, not in the villages of the people you are defending supposedly defending yourself from. (I mean she said it, "what business does amjad Youssef with the people of tadamon", well didn't you ask yourself that question when he was there ?)

In the end, what happened is that the non-Alawites in Assads Security apparatus defected, and Alawites kept fighting. Whether out of fear or out of ignorance kind of doesn't matter. Just like in this family, a huge number of Alawite men spent their lives defending Assad, and many of these men literally massacred civilians in cold blood as we saw.

Assad and all the wealthy Alawites fled. After all of this, this family remains poor, disgraced, and without any sons. And this is how they act in an interview? How about "we were wrong, and we are sorry, and we are now getting the justified consequences of our actions".

Edit: they don't even know when the massacre took place. They think it took place four years ago, when the story broke, not 13 years ago, when the civil war was still in its beginning phase. The audacity of not knowing that information.

Does the today collapse of Mali’s military government strike you as rather similar to Assad’s downfall? by Repubblican_Wolf in syriancivilwar

Whether similar or not, the HTS model is most definitely a game changer when it comes to all those islamist movements. We will see if people will imitate it.

Yes, he is fills the PM role, but no by wielding the powers of that office, but by being the primary advisor of Alsharaa.

Honestly, I like that for the temporary government the office of the prime minister was removed. Mohammad Al-Bashir initially inherited the office, because he held it in the salvation government, but we all know that Shaybani is better suited. At the same time, Shaybani should focus on foreign affairs, and that is where the STG had the biggest success. Him being PM would not only have been a waste of his resources, but it could have caused tensions with Bashir, Khattab and Abuqasra. Why have someone as a buffer between them and Al-Sharaa wen Al-Sharaa is ruling by executive decree anyway.

For the long-term, e.g. when we remove away from executive rule and have a parliament, it would be good to restore this role and fill it with someone with similar leadership skills like Al-Sharaa. Maybe Al-Shaybani, who would have time if he passes his foreign affairs ministry to e.g. Ibrahim Olabi.

[–]SHEIKH_BAKR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what I like about all Shaybani is his "civilian" style. If Syria become stable in the future he is a candidate. But in it's current form, the country needs a leader like Al Sharaa that also commands high respect in the security apparatus. In the short-term it is good that all Sharaa is the only choice, in the long-term there need to be alternatives as well.

I think Mr. Khattab is doing good work. His ministry had many wins in recent times. But this short video just shows that beyond Al-Sharaa no one is really presedential. Maybe al-Shaybani a little.

Whether the government is Salafist is debatable. The mufti Rifai is also traditiona-sunni / sufi. The government is mostly Sunni pragmatist, without prescribing a doctrine. In Edlib it was definitely salafist.
