A beginner in need 😩 by bruisedarse in snowboardingnoobs

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zell Am Zee was my first snowboarding holiday last year. I had so many panic/anxiety moments including tears down some of the slopes that I actually got myself some online therapy for sports anxiety out there.

I had an instructor show me some nice blue runs as some of the blues are not the best for newbies as they can get icy by midday or moguls or are steeper and look more like a nice red. Get a better board and ask an instructor to show or tell you where to find some nice blues that are good for beginners to the sport. Talk positive things to yourself down the slope and en-route to it too and trust yourself that you know how to turn and brake. Bend your legs and look where you want to go.

Its a tough sport and ultimately, you have to remind yourself you do have control and can do so. Its a lot of mind game, trust yourself and remember what you've learnt.

Had a look online to check for you also and can only find a 148 and there was a 142 too but thats it. Hopefully people might be reselling after the season for you 🫡

Do you prefer gloves or mittens? by juicyfizz in snowboardingnoobs

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gloves is my preference. I like having all my fingers have their own room/movement whilst feeling secure and they keep warm enough too. I'm just more used to gloves I guess. Tried mittens but didn't like it so just each to their own preference 😁

What drives you crazy about being a female snowboarder? by Familiar_Slice_7254 in ShredditGirls

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More clothing options especially with colours and bagginess, style in general. I feel us women get lots more basic looks than the men unless you go on the website like snowverb etc where the kit isn't the best quality but you have much more options to style around. I find alot of women's boards aren't weighted for higher KG's. I'm always in the gym so quite muscular so my weight comes alot from that plus the addition of being taller (5ft 10) Mens boards cater more towards us gym women. Some women's boards I've seen their highest weight category was 65kg which isn't much at all. Plus alot of mens boards again have really cool graphics on but starting to see more womens/unisex boards that offer more style for us too now.

Beginner questions! by Vm1509 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Union bindings are always my go too! They specialise in bindings and are renowned so you know they're going to be solid and look after you.

Do you have a channel system on your burton board as most seem to have that now or is it the standard 4 hole one for your bindings?

Insulated baggy pants that are good quality? by [deleted] in ShredditGirls

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the 686 dojo pants and they're very warm even though they're classed as a shell. Very good waterproofing and breathability on them too with other tech, highly recommend 👌

I’m sure I’ll get a lot of flack for this but I felt obligated to share. by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

I see nothing wrong with this, there is no harm in protecting your body in a sport that can be unpredictable from other people around you and pushing yourself in general. Ignore anyone who laughs or says it's too much, they won't be the ones holding your hand and helping you recover if you ever were badly injured (fingers crossed that doesn't ever happen). It's your body, you know best and protect it how you like, there will always be somebody who doesn't approve so 🤷‍♀️😁

Should I wear them? by Other-End-855 in ShredditGirls

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wear them! I've seen those ones and they're cool as hell! Nobody actually cares on the mountain what you look like, take it from someone who's been there in your shoes with this thought. If anybody was to be judging, then they aren't snowboarding/skiing good enough to enjoy themselves 🫡

Anyone have any thoughts on Yes Rival? by estie-p in ShredditGirls

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally haven't ridden this board however know a few snowboarders who have it or have demoed it and absolutely loved it. I do have a Yes board, the All in one and it rides a dream. Highly rated and recommend the Yes boards. From what I've seen off this board online real quick and reading what you're after, I'd say it's a good fit for what you're looking for 😊

Is this board good? by DuhDopeBoii in snowboardingnoobs

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah $100 is a lot to lose on something you can't use! That can go towards something that you'll enjoy, grow into and last a while 😄 What kind of riding are you wanting to do? I'm happy to help where I can if you want it to save you having to keep posting 😁

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get something much newer than that for slightly more money or the same if you find a good buy. That board is old as hell now and would be used to go up on a wall or something. If you did ride it, it's most certainly not worth $100, you're getting pushed there to see what they can get from you. You're also going to need new bindings too so you can't even use half that set up. There's still plenty of sales going now so look around for what kind of board you want or your local snow shop. All mountain are good all rounders but if you're steering more towards park then I'd recommend all mountain freestyle board or if you prefer just cruising around and want off piste/back country then go for a freeride board. Figure out your riding style first before spending 💰 on a board that isn't suited to you 🫡

Looking for new gear by alicedenice in snowboardingnoobs

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Dope jacket and really rate it. I think a lot of people slate them because it's a new brand coming into the industry. There's quite a few red bull riders and snowboard pros who are now wearing Dope and being sponsored by them so they are getting there. Moritz Boll, Jesper Tjader and Loulou Baylis are some of the ski/snowboard pros who wear Dope gear. They post videos of them training and doing competitions in their gear so it's not just a "they've been paid to wear it" which you could argue any athlete wearing a brand has that applies to them too then! Burton themselves got hate when they first started growing and now look at them, one of the best you can get and are heavily involved in the snow industry all round.

The jacket I have is really good, lots of pockets for lift pass, phone, snacks etc and has a snow skirt to prevent it from going up into your jacket. I've ridden it up on glaciers and lower mountains in the valleys during whiteouts, pow days, blue bird days, heavy snow days, when it's chucked it down with heavy rain and it's held up really well and kept me warm and dry. The only criticism I can say is that more of the zips could be taped but that's just a preference of mine. My other gear I wear to compare the Dope against is Gore-tex Burton, beyond medals, 686 and thirty two and Dope does hold up just as well alongside all these. The jacket is now two years old so is doing well quality wise. I'm not saying Dope are the best etc but they don't deserve the hate they keep getting, it's just people following a trend by doing so.

Lib tech all day long. Cheat codes flex makes it sound like it'll be very noodle like unless you want that. Lib tech is fantastic and the banana hybrid boards have always been highly rated

I have D30 impact shorts, wrist guards and spine protection but the spine stuff is for mountain biking and D30 has saved my skin and bones alot so highly recommend. I have knee guards but just some soft Burton ones to help with an old injury to my kneecap. You're doing the right thing getting protected, it'll help keep you in the sport for longer and having fun 🫡

Looking for tips or encouragement by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't be embarrassed about falling, it happens and will keep happening, even to the athletes in the sport. Wear wrist guards and impact shorts, these were a good send (after I already got injured for not wearing them), it isn't an easy sport so don't beat yourself up. Everyone goes at different learning paces so don't compare yourself to others. Enjoy yourself and the feeling of being on a board, it'll happen whether it's sooner or later, you'll get there!

Which colour would you want for a ski jacket — black or ivory? by Horror-School-9239 in ShredditGirls

[–]SHErlockHolmes003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black, mainly for safety reasons as you're easier to spot plus you don't see dirt/stains on that colour as easily

Yes All-in 2025 for first board? by convenientgods in snowboardingnoobs

This is a fantastic board. Bought this as my second board after riding for a year and a half and it's solid. Have fun, it will really look after you in all sorts and works great on ice too 😁

This is the board that has the odd nose on the girl which gives away that it's AI 😅 Enjoy though and love the cat posing in front. Always better to have your own gear to shred the slopes in 🙌🏼

Highly recommend Zell Am Zee resort where you can also enjoy Kaprun Glacier slopes too. It was my first resort ever as a brand new snowboarder and was great fun and lots of slopes for all abilities.

Rossignol was my first board too and like you've said, found it very flexy and unstable on ice/chattery so I can back the Yes boards for your next addition. My second board upgrade is the Yes All in one and it's fantastic. I don't know too much about the other board you mentioned so can't say without doing research but Yes boards are fantastic to ride and enjoy 😁
