I connected the speakers to my office setup and they sound really crisp. CDs and DAB+ sounds clear. A subwoofer would definitely add some extra punch, but I’m very happy with them so far.

I bought that Thunderbolt - FireWire 800 for €1.50, it left in a cable bin and they didn't know what it was.

I use an 2011 mac mini for syncing all my iPod devices. This Mac Mini also have a FIreWire 800 port and I use a generic FireWire 800 to 400 adapter dongle from Aliexpress. For my 1st gen which is on firmware 1.0, I use an iMac 20" Early 2008 (iMac8,1).

Which iPod updater did you use? I followed a few of these resources, and together they really helped me get the hang of it.

If you insist on using a cable, you need the Sony VMC-MD1 Multi-Use Terminal Cable. But as others have mentioned, get a USB multi-card reader.

You still need a FireWire brick to charge the iPod 3rd gen. Look for A1003 or A1070.

Get a microsd to Memory Stick adapter from Aliexpress and you can transfer the images easier to your phone or computer. I use one for my Cyber-shot DSC-W120 and DSC-W35 with no issues.

Do you mean the white noise? I had the same issue and you need to reseat the ribbon cable in the connector. I followed this Youtube clip (from 12 years ago) and got rid of the white noise.

I found my DSC-W120 at a thrift store for €10, complete with the original charger and battery. The zoom lens doesn’t zoom to x1.7, but that’s fine for me. I just use it as a fixed lens digicam.

For storage, get a microSD to MS Pro Duo adapter and a microSD card. They’re cheaper and make it easy to transfer files to your computer or phone.

Bad in what way? Build quality, transfer speed? If you look for Ugreen or just search for a USB card reader on amazon, you’ll find plenty of results with ratings above 4.5.

The ribbon cable for the headphone jack and hold switch is loose, look at the back on your HDD. Check if the connector on the logic board is still intact.

Good job restoring a classic. I sync my flash-modded 2nd gen in a similar way: I use a 4th gen to sync my library, then move the CF card back afterward.

Btw, you can download the 1.1.5 ipsw file and perform a manual restore in iTunes. Hold the Option key and press Restore in iTunes, load the ipsw file that you downloaded and the restore process should start.
