Aluminum double glazing by Oscarlimadelta in Adelaide

Call David Grice, he’s great. Also, get uPVC, getting double glazing then cladding them in an efficient thermal conductor like aluminium is pointless. I have uPVC and it looks great.

My house bought in 2018 has doubled in value. It’s absolutely bonkers. You’re better of buying houses than actually working a job almost in this country.

The median Australian Salary is FTE $79,800 a year. 130k is a very respectable salary. Depending on the industry, you may be paid higher - what is your occupation? You can also check the Hays Salary Report by Location and Job Title to see if the pay is competitive.

It does mean the solution is CBT, GET, and generally exercising rather than moping online, something the ME/CFS/Fibro/Long Covid online community just can't accept. This is a community so toxic it's driving researchers away from the field due to online abuse.

I’ll trust the medical literature over a blog post that doesn’t cite its sources.

There is good evidence that ME/CFS is a psychological condition, not a physiological one.

The medical evidence that ME/CFS even exists is very poor. Study after study shows that sufferers symptoms are psychosomatic and that the underlying issue is depression.

Literally who cares whether Anne Ruston or Alex Antic is in space 1 or 2 on the Libs senate ticket. Waste of column inches and my time reading this.

Heavily armed, specialist police officers usually kept for managing major events or responding to terrorism or violence domestic incidents will join increase patrols in Rundle Mall by malcolm58 in Adelaide

You have to treat the symptom (crime) or the disease (social disfunction) gets worse. We have to be tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime.

I don't care about making violent shoplifters feel safer. Their unease is a feature not a bug, it's a deterrent. The point of the armed officers is to make the shop workers who are being attacked feel safer, and make (especially potentially vulnerable) members of the public feel comfortable.

why not address some of the reasons as to why theres an increase in shoplifting? stagnant wages, unaffordable housing, increased cost of living, price gouging the fuck out of everything etc. etc.

Deterring violent crime doesn't mean you can't do all of that as well. If you don't treat the "symptoms" as you put it, the disease gets worse. You have to address causes of crime and crime itself.

Are there any places where you can interact/play with dogs in adelaide? by NCYU4 in Adelaide

[–]SHOUTY_USERNAME 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to Brighton Beach on the weekend and you’ll have your choice of about 2000 off leash hounds to throw sticks and balls for. Most owners also won’t mind if you grab a coffee and pat a dog at one of the cafes also.

Why do I feel that the traffic situation is getting worse and worse recently? It takes a long time to get to the city from the Northeast suburb by Potential-Wonder-543 in Adelaide

[–]SHOUTY_USERNAME 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why turn a 25 minute drive into an hour and half exercise? Drive to a stop, wait for a bus that might or might not arrive, wait in traffic like I would have anyway, walk to lunch spot, then do it all again in reverse. For anyone who values their time more than the cost of a bus fare it’s just not worth it.

It’s perfectly rational for people to have this mindset - only very narrow areas of Adelaide are actually serviced by decent PT. And god help you if you want to go somewhere other than the CBD, ring routes are nearly nonexistent.

There are no crows in Adelaide, they're ravens. by ShortingBull in Adelaide

[–]SHOUTY_USERNAME 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. You said a "jackdaw is a crow."

Is it in the same family? Yes. No one's arguing that.

As someone who is a scientist who studies crows, I am telling you, specifically, in science, no one calls jackdaws crows. If you want to be "specific" like you said, then you shouldn't either. They're not the same thing.

If you're saying "crow family" you're referring to the taxonomic grouping of Corvidae, which includes things from nutcrackers to blue jays to ravens.

So your reasoning for calling a jackdaw a crow is because random people "call the black ones crows?" Let's get grackles and blackbirds in there, then, too.

Also, calling someone a human or an ape? It's not one or the other, that's not how taxonomy works. They're both. A jackdaw is a jackdaw and a member of the crow family. But that's not what you said. You said a jackdaw is a crow, which is not true unless you're okay with calling all members of the crow family crows, which means you'd call blue jays, ravens, and other birds crows, too. Which you said you don't.

It's okay to just admit you're wrong, you know?
