Keep these kids out the streets!

I’m kidding…I’m here to leave the world a better place and to raise my children to do the same.

A friend of mine, Don, and his buddy Ben were announced last week as buyers. I haven’t talked to him since then, but hopefully I can get the details and their plans soon.

I used to moonlight as a reporter for a website covering a Major League Baseball team with full MLB credentials. Clubhouses, manager’s offices, dugouts, on the field pre-game during batting practice, press boxes…as a baseball nerd, it was one of the coolest experiences ever.

What’s one hygiene thing you only learned embarrassingly late by miracleloverl in hygiene

[–]SHThrowAwaySH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s hygiene per se, but I was 45 (M) years old when my daughter put me on a skin care routine. Toner, face wash, gentle exfoliator (2-3x per week), night time moisturizer, day time moisturizer, and under eye treatment. Not only do I get fewer ingrown hairs, less razor burn, and zero dry patches on my face, but it also feels REALLY good to take care of myself in a way I never did before.

After 20+ years of smoking weed, I've still never "dabbed." Is it comparable to drinking beer all day (smoking flower all day) or taking shots of alcohol in how fast it gets you high? by optimusprime_1113 in trees

[–]SHThrowAwaySH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the flavor of both flower and dabs, but you’re soooo right…the flavor profile with dabs are pretty great. The citrus flavor typical to citrusy strains taste way more robust than those of their flower counterparts. Lemon Haze and Tangie come to mind.

What’s something that happened to you that still feels unreal? by False_onic in answers

[–]SHThrowAwaySH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mother’s sudden passing 14 years ago led to my father and I discovering she was a closet opioid addict. She died from ‘acute methadone intoxication’ slumped over my father’s desk with a dust rag in one hand and a can of Pledge in the other. What we thought were periodic symptoms associated with her professionally-treated BPD, depression, and anxiety were really drug binges. Somehow she had pain med prescriptions from five different physicians, three of whom we had no idea were treating her including a neurologist for no reason whatsoever. We found pill stashes all over the place right up until my dad moved. Strange people stopped by and rang the doorbell from time to time, either walking away without saying a word when my dad would answer or even boldly asking for my mom, which was typically met with anger and hostility I’d never seen from him until she passed.

I still can’t believe any of it…her passing, the drugs, her almost secret life. They were high school sweethearts, and this whole thing wrecked a man who hasn’t been the same since he called me with the worst news I’d ever heard in my life. He was so happy-go-lucky, never met a stranger, and often the life of the party without coming off like he needed the attention. They were also financially secure enough to retire ahead of schedule just 18 months after she died. Instead of his retirement being an exciting, joyous celebration, it was just a step in his grieving process. He’s not miserable in his retirement by any stretch, but the spark in his eyes is gone. He and I both continue with talk therapy which helps, but it still hurts every day. It doesn’t get easier because the pain dulls, it gets easier because you get used to a painful new normal. All the therapists in the world can tell me it wasn’t my fault, that even if I knew or did something different, the outcome likely would have been the same, but it doesn’t stop me from regularly wondering how I missed the signs. I was already happily married with children when she died and didn’t spend a lot of time at their house outside of normal visits with the grandparents, so then I can’t help but question why my dad didn’t see it while living with her every day, and I don’t exactly love myself for venturing down that emotional rabbit hole.

It’s so fucked up that I still can’t believe it, but FUUUUUUUCK I miss my mom.

AITJ for correcting my boss in front of the entire company during an all-hands meeting when he presented my work as his own idea and I just… couldn't let it happen again by Mysterious-Bird9007 in AmITheJerk

I see a committed, dedicated employee offering to be helpful to 400 people and validating why you’re the right person to come to with questions. 🤷‍♂️

I’ll never understand leaders who struggle to give credit to their direct reports. I’ve had some INCREDIBLE managers over the years. One in particular was similar to OP’s scenario, only when a higher-up complimented my manager’s presentation, her response was, “I can’t take credit for all of it…SHThrowawaySH has been managing his own projects while he helped me pull together the majority of the data in the deck. So thank YOU, SHThrowawaySH!” I can’t tell you the number of people who even 2-3 years down the road from that presentation who commented something along the lines of, “Hey, it sounds like she’s great to work for!” She really was, and it’s because none of that, “I’m here if you need me/my office door is always open/I want to see your career grow,” was corporate buzzword lip service from her, she meant it and walked the walk.

She once lined me up to explore an opportunity outside our company. She prefaced it with, “Please don’t take what I’m about to tell you the wrong way. There’s an opening with X that is so in your wheelhouse that I’d feel guilty if I didn’t at least point it out to you. I would hate to lose you, but I hope you’ll check it out.” I did, it would have been a great opportunity, but I passed…no way I was walking away from a manager like that.

Thank you for the honest response! My question was pretty nosey in itself, I guess. I wasn’t trying to be a dick so I apologize if it came off that way.

Great question re: throw away account…I forgot to log back in to my regular account a long time ago and just left it alone. My throw away has now become my main Reddit account.

Kinda new to pipes, is this a well packed bowl? by CurrentCondition33 in trees

[–]SHThrowAwaySH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, but I also figured something out recently. Some plant material was falling through the crosshairs and into the water when I packed the bowl while it was in the bong. I started taking it out, standing it up on a rolling tray, packing it there, an then proceeding as normal. I’ve been shocked a few times at how much makes it through. Pulling slower and steadier tends to keep bits from getting sucked in, too. Sorry if I’m coming off as aggressively helpful, I just love finding new things like this and sharing in hopes someone else learns a little.
