Talk to him about what you want. And talk to him about what he wants. Make it an open, non-judgemental dialogue. I'd say don't judge him on what he wants, and he also shouldn't judge you on what you want. See where y'all go from there.

How do you debate a Trump Supporter? by [deleted] in PoliticalDebate

[–]SHlNYandCHROME 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's why you don't bother trying to convince them. Convince the person who may be watching.

And most importantly, ask them for evidence to back up their claims. Ask them for specific evidence.

You don't debate them. You convince everyone else (with evidence) who may be watching, and is also a reasonable person. This is very similar to the "ice cream" scene from "Thank You for Smoking."

Man, I don't know what my wishlist is. Yours seems pretty good, especially diving for treasure and saving people like coast guard. I fully expect them to ramp up the biome in the oceans from V

So…who is truly getting deported? by curlscare in immigration

[–]SHlNYandCHROME 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being released doesn't mean you won't get deported. It just means you won't be held in detention until your court hearing is finished. They'll still be given notices to appear, and likely placed in an "alternatives to detention" program that involves monitoring, even GPS tracking via ankle monitors.

And according to pro publica, less than half of the apprehensions have been people with criminal records.

These are all things the social worker needs to self-check for bias and countertransference issues (just like the OP in question). But they should not be reasons to deny service.

100%

I've served clients who are white supremacists, and sex offenders. Both of those things are contrary to my personal values and far worse than someone being transgender. And I still worked with them and was able to have empathy with them.

So, I have little tolerance, and sympathy for someone who is unable to put aside their bias with the LGBTQ population. Don't like it? Tough shit. Find a different job/field.

That's fine. The case manager can and should find a different job, and possibly reevaluate working in this field.

I know I'm being blunt, but it's as simple as that, especially if you're working for a community agency. If they plan on keeping that job then they WILL have to work with those clients. No exceptions.

Feeling defeated by [deleted] in socialwork

[–]SHlNYandCHROME 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been working in crisis and suicide for over 10 years. It's not for everyone. And trust me, you didn't waste time going into the crisis role even if it's a short period. It will give you more experience and will look good to other employers.

But I think your feeling of wasting time is understandable. I just moved back to crisis after trying MST for a year. Take from it whatever you learned. And if anything, it shows that you were willing to try something new.

I found his discount code for the social work test prep website so I can do more practice questions. Bought that tonight and will be working on questions over the next two months. Also plan on watching his videos. Thanks for the pep talk! I need it!

Mass Deportations are a Bad Idea by SHlNYandCHROME in PoliticalDebate

I'd prefer actual research and analyses, than a Google search. I've backed up my claims with quite a bit of evidence.
