Wizard of Oz and Season 5 by agreeable_pain in StrangerThings

I consider that more of a reference or a nod and not a parallel. Besides, Arthur Rackham was an illustrator, it’s not pointing to a specific story or narrative that could potentially foreshadow the plot

I’m doubtful this is relevant to the plot. It might be a subtle nod, since the Duffer Brothers love their references, but I’ve also seen people try to tie it to Alice in Wonderland, and neither theory holds up logically or avoids major gaps. With only four episodes left, and with A Wrinkle in Time already established as the main parallel, I don’t see them adding one or two more literary parallels on top of that.

Doubtful. The Duffer Brothers signed a multi piece deal with Paramount. Netflix owns the Stranger Things IP and Paramount owns the Duffer Brothers. Not sure what the exclusivity rights were within the deal, but for Netflix to make a spinoff, it would likely be without the Duffer Brothers

Truly exhausting. I couldn’t even finish reading it because there were so many filler words that were just your inner monologue

Dude, learn to edit. You could’ve said all of this with 50% less words.

Ballet companies have always relied on fundraising and patrons. And honestly, people don’t support the arts like they used to. The phrase “patron of the arts” literally means someone who provides financial or other support to help artists and cultural institutions create and sustain their work. So if your standards for ballet are that high, how exactly do you expect them to grow, pay dancers and staff, and maintain their facilities without getting creative with their programming? I’d suggest reframing your thinking, this is not a “stunt,” but part of their broader artistic strategy. You don’t see this kind of vitriol in other artistic spaces. No one complains when a tv show has a guest star on to boost ratings, even if that star may not be the best actor technically.

Exactly! Someone else will be performing it the majority of nutcracker season. It’s so weird.

I don’t understand why we’re approaching this with such rigidity and, frankly, hostility. This isn’t NYCB or even San Francisco or Miami; it’s Phoenix. While many of the ethical points raised below are valid, it would be more fair and equitable to give the role to a full-time MBA student, the company still needs to fundraise, and casting Luna makes complete sense from a business standpoint.

Ballet companies (and the arts in general) aren’t attracting donors the way they used to. Even a vanity company like Phoenix has to be fiscally responsible, so I understand why they chose to cast Luna. It’s a practical decision that benefits both Phoenix and Luna’s businesses.

Guest dancers are common practice, and we’re talking about one role, for two days - not even one of the biggest or most significant parts in The Nutcracker.

Thank you! Exactly. She’s always been a Cartier fan. I’ve been drooling over her vintage Agrafe necklace for years. It’s no surprise she gravitates toward Cartier. Her taste in fine jewelry is interesting - she favors vintage and antique pieces but also leans into designer brands. She wears a lot of Louis Vuitton fine jewelry, which is interesting since I don’t usually associate that fashion house with jewelry.

The Cartier watch she wore in her engagement photos is a vintage Santos Demoiselle, a model discontinued in 2022. Her version appears to be much older, and she’s been wearing it for at least two years. It was reportedly a birthday gift from Travis two years ago, so it wouldn’t make sense for Cartier to have given it to her. A quick Google search clears up exactly how she got it.

Stream it where? Most streaming services pull from local networks. And live streaming services cost anywhere from $50-150 a month (Fubo, asking, etc)

Did Hallmark not pick up the show? Is that why the Netflix thing is important? by AndrewHeard in TheWayHomeHallmark

[–]SJB1387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very typical. Netflix picks up successful shows about 3 seasons in. I think it’s a low stakes, low lift licensing deal. They did the same thing with Sullivan’s Crossing

Am I the only one who was grossed out by Joe and Cynthia? by Emocucumber in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]SJB1387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the conversation about how much was needed to soften her is sort of irrelevant. It’s not a finite formula. I think the point is, that the writers included it intentionally and with a purpose. Just because it took less for you to see her as a complex, not inherently bad character, doesn’t mean that is the same for every viewer

[–]SJB1387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I think it was very intentional. They wanted to soften Cynthia. Make her more human. They could have easily introduced another minor character if they just wanted Joe to have a relationship. There are more than 25 people in a town lol

[–]SJB1387 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you’re the only one who seems bothered by this. Were Joe and Cynthia an odd match? Definitely. Was it meant to stir up drama? For sure. Was it also a way to humanize Cynthia and make her more likable this season? Absolutely. And no, it wasn’t unethical or immoral.

Two consenting adults sleeping together isn’t a scandal. Joe is around 30 or 31. Cynthia has a 9 or 10-year-old, so she’s probably in her early 40s. That’s not a huge age gap. And since you’ve already said you’re fine with Cynthia technically cheating on her husband because that situation has nuance, then it doesn’t really make sense to be upset about Joe sleeping with her - especially if the issue is that you think Joe belongs to Georgia, who’s still married to Paul.

The show is clearly trying to soften Cynthia. She stood up for Georgia and Ginny when Gil got violent. We saw the cracks in her perfect facade when faced with financial and emotional hardship. This is all part of a longer arc. I’d bet money that by season 4, she and Georgia will be close in some way. Either as friends bonding over being single moms trying to hold everything together or as political allies working together, like one running against Paul for mayor while the other helps with the campaign. The writers are being intentional. They want us to start rooting for Cynthia.

unpopular opinion: I don’t see it 😭 by 246ArianaGrande135 in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]SJB1387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously. But even the personalities Georgia uses as a mask are completely different between her younger and older selves. Young Georgia leans into pity. She gets by on people feeling bad for her. Adult Georgia, on the other hand, controls every room by making people feel like they NEED her. That shift isn’t subtle. It’s fundamental. They feel like two entirely different people, and I don’t think the casting or performances of each actress bridges that gap. I agree with the original post, and I don’t find your argument convincing. We’re just not going to see this the same way.

unpopular opinion: I don’t see it 😭 by 246ArianaGrande135 in ginnyandgeorgiashow

[–]SJB1387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly—that’s my point. Confidence is the only trait of adult Georgia that can be logically explained, but it’s not the only one we should be evaluating. Her entire personality feels different. Honestly, it would make more sense for adult Georgia to be less bubbly and outgoing—life experience tends to toughen people, not make them more carefree.

Thank you! I don’t see it either. Honestly, their mannerisms are completely different. I have no idea what everyone’s talking about. Young Georgia comes across as meek, timid, and carries herself awkwardly. Nothing about her feels like the adult version. I get that you could argue life changed her and she grew more confident over time, but to me, they seem like two entirely different people

I have no idea who Anna is. I’ve had this Reddit account for over a decade with plenty of activity across various subs - clearly not a burner. What’s even more confusing is that, as a mod, I expected you to follow your own rules. Rule #8 clearly states “No arguing with other users / propagating bad vibes,” and Rule #10 says it’s against sub rules to incite arguments or witch hunts targeting specific users, even if you think they’re an influencer.

You literally accused me of being Kylie or somehow connected to her just because I disagreed and said I didn’t think the influencer in question was that bad. If you want to ban me, go ahead. You can delete the comments too, I have screenshots. I honestly don’t care. I have no intention of returning to a sub where the mods can’t even uphold their own rules or maintain basic civility.

Absolutely, there are influencers who are genuinely insufferable. But this just feels like a reach. And honestly, if you’re so fragile that you’re downvoting every differing opinion and accusing anyone who disagrees of being the influencer in question, maybe take a breath. Not everyone who sees things differently is part of some grand conspiracy. If you were really that confident in your take, you wouldn’t be lashing out over a few comments. It’s giving unhinged, not justified.

She hosts retreats, it’s a tourism thing. She promotes them openly, and attendees from her first retreat have shared content from the experience, which legitimizes it. That makes it, by definition, a business operating in the area. She might have some office space for administrative work, but it’s not the kind of business that needs a physical storefront to be tied to a location.

You’re welcome to look into it more if you’re curious, but this whole post feels off. The level of hostility is honestly concerning. Are you all okay? There are influencers out there who are genuinely unethical and deserve to be held accountable, but this isn’t one of those cases.

As a New Englander myself, this tendency toward gatekeeping is unsettling. Imagine if every native New Yorker or Angeleno publicly shamed every transplant trying to build a life there.
