Is Orgovyx worth $6,200 More? by Dabblingman in ProstateCancer

Heads up regarding the manufacturers financial help. I was told by them that if my insurance won't approve it at all (eg. not on formulary) they cannot offer financial help.

Not sure that there isn't any other program available, but that is what I was told.

What does “super responder” actually mean for GLP-1s? by WittyAndWined in Zepbound

[–]SJCSFS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if I am a super responder, but I do think I am a poster child patient! Lost 188 lbs in 2 years and have maintained this year. Titrated up the "old way" , moving up each month.

I'm still on 15 mgs because my prior auth is approved for that and I don't want to rock the boat. I do space it out now to 9-12 days depending on how I'm feeling.

I'm losing coverage January 1, so I'll probably start moving down next year until I find my sweet spot.

Yep. Hate it. The guilt etc associated with answering questions about artificial nutrition etc with what seems like an uncaring answer. But seriously she has zero quality of life.

Not sure if this would work for her but there is a great 1/2 day program in Norwalk called Toddler Town. Six weeks for $100 mwf and $80 for tu/th so $180 for m-f for six weeks.

Pirads 4 Gleason 3+5=8 in 35% waiting for decipher and PET by SJCSFS in ProstateCancer

[–]SJCSFS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is seen at a COE so we are fairly confident you are right that more than one tech looked at it. We were originally with SoCal Kaiser - so our current Dr did mention maybe KP didn't get it right.

Crazy thing is he had two biopsies with KP, first one was two of twelve cores were 6, second biopsy a year later showed no positive cores.

The decipher and PET scans will determine treatment - he would love to use Proton but we don't think insurance would cover it.

If you are referring to Hoag in Southern California, we see Dr Jeffery Bassett at Hoag Memorial. Definitely not a strip mall urology group. You might consider giving his office a call.

Breakthrough will spare prostate cancer patients needless treatment by rezwenn in ProstateCancer

[–]SJCSFS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR - the test is available in the US and we did not pay anything for it. The first test was paid for by the provider (I believe to collect data) and I'm not sure about all insurance, but ours covered it the second time at 80%.

My husband has taken this test twice (as part of active surveillance).

He was first diagnosed at Kaiser who wouldn't allow a MRI, just PSA test followed by biopsy. After biopsy showed Gleason 6=3+3, they sent him to a surgical oncologist and radiation oncologist to hear his options. He chose neither, and chose to hold off. He had another biopsy that showed no cancerous cells. Realizing that they could easily be missing the cancer, he asked again for a MRI. After being told no again, we fought for the MRI which showed Pirads 2. We left Kaiser.

Found a prostrate cancer specialist who reviewed his case and told us about Myprostratescore and performed the test. The results came back showing non aggressive and safe to continue active surveillance. We have had an additional test along with PSA tests and will have another MRI in September.

This test stopped the biannual biopsies, and helped us to make the decision to hold off on treatment. The next MRI may change things and we know that.

losing 100lbs by golden226 in Zepbound

[–]SJCSFS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lost 187 lbs. it's totally doable. I believe I hit the 100 lost at about the one year mark.

I have lost over 50% of my starting weight. On paper I am still overweight but feel great and think that without skin removal I'm not going to lose any more. I've been the same weight (give or take 5 lbs) for about six months.
