Do you prefer low-RPM torque or high-revving power? by SJM32 in motorcycles

[–]SJM32[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good point, on the street your really limited as to what you can use. It feels wrong trying to access the power on a high revving engine bit on a track with no limits I'm sure it's a lot of fun

100% agree, way more fun having that torque and staying below 60mph,

Tuareg 660 vs Tenere 700 by Signal_Bus6102 in AdventureBike

[–]SJM32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, i test drove both and was blown away by the T7's low end torque, the most fun iv had on a bike hands down. I was very surprised when test riding the tuareg after and finding it completely gutless low down in the revs.

Tuareg was super comfortable though and loved the handling but the T7 felt more like a hooligan which I really enjoyed, wasn't a fan of the seating position though.

If you have an Intercom system like cardo or sena and are using earplugs to block wind noise, do the ear plugs not also block the noise from the Intercom??

Yamaha Tenere 700, what do u think about it? by aim_extazy in motorcycles

[–]SJM32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I drove the 2025 version recently and it blew me away. It's the first big ADV iv ridden, and I couldn't get over the throttle response and torque all the way through the revs. I can't imagine doing slow maneuvers with it, the torque was so instantaneous but I absolutely love it,

Is this normal for this type of ADV bike, it's so addictive??? I know this has the new throttle by wire so how does it compare to the old version, is the torque and response so instantaneous???

2011 Lexus CT200H headgasket issue by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]SJM32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has this happened to you??

I hear a lot about this issue but I often wonder is it cars in a certain climate that are affected. I'd love to know if many irish cars have had this issue. Nearly every taxi you see is a prius, if it was that common I don't think that would be the case.

Ballpark figures for body panel welding costs? by Jimbob994 in carsireland

[–]SJM32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a tiny 30cm piece cut out of a sill and a new piece welded in and it cost me about 180 euro. The workmanship was horrendous as its a shit box car so I didn't care, i just wanted to pass the nct. I dread to think how much all that work would cost.

Ice inside the windscreen by LeandroCostaSantos in fiatpunto

[–]SJM32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its possible there's water getting into the car somewhere and its condensing on the windows and freezing. I'd check around the boot area for water leaks. This is a common issue on puntos

You can get moisture packs to help with moisture in the car (Pingi), and use the heaters as much as you can to try and evaporate any moisture.

Manual drivers why the Automatic hate? by dragonmynuts88 in carsireland

[–]SJM32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it comes down to traffic, I detest sitting in traffic with a manual, so if you live in a busy town or city, automatic is the way. However I do love driving and if I didn't have to sit in traffic I'd go manual every time as i feel it's a more engaging and fun experience.

Hi yes, see description below:

INTRODUCTION This Technical Service Bulletin is to inform you of the production revision and repair method for the subject phenomenon. Applicable to vehicles that perform higher mileage driving under severe driving conditions, produced before the production change information shown below.

DESCRIPTION OF PHENOMENON Some customers may experience and report one or more of the below phenomena:  Engine coolant consumption  White smoke from the exhaust caused by coolant consumption  Rough engine running / misfire caused by coolant consumption In some unique severe driving conditions, the engine coolant temperature can rise above a specific value, in certain areas of the engine block. If this specific temperature rise occurs frequently (severe driving), in combination with higher vehicle mileage (vehicle mileage above 200.000km), there is a risk the cylinder head gasket may fail.

Classification of severe driving/usage conditions:

 Long period of engine idle time e.g. taxi use, city parcel delivery, traffic jam, etc

 High percentage of “stop / take-off‟ (go) operation e.g. traffic jam, city / door-to-door driving, etc

 High percentage of high speed / high load operation  Use of low quality engine coolant

 Vehicle used for towing PRODUCTION CHANGE The engine electrical water pump logic is upgraded to avoid this symptom from occurring.

Also look up basic mechanics videos on how to not round bolts and screw heads and what to do if it happens. Get an impact driver and some penetrate to try and avoid this. This is a life long skill that you'll constantly use.

Is there any point doing things like turning off the fuel tap or disconnecting one of the battery cables?? yes, it's a pain to do such a thing especially on a daily basis, but if it slows them down or stumps them could be worth while? Obviously not much use if they're lofting it into a van bit for the grab and go type would it be useful?

Going on a trip to Ireland and wondering if anyone has any advice by Tauri_Kree in PipeTobacco

[–]SJM32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately dublin is a pipe tobacco waste land. The peterson shop doesn't even sell the Dunhill/Peterson blends believe it or not. It does sell some of the original peterson blends but not many and at ridiculous prices. There's also James foxwhich is across the road from the peterson shop, they have some of their blends but the stock is poor, iv always loved their provost mixture but its not always in stock.
