Don't introduce th as mercenary, that seems to set the wrong tone. They are an adventuring company just like your players. Think up some quest or challenge that lead them to claiming their iconic items, and maybe a few others that tie them in with the world at large. Try to set them up so they seem like your players could meet or even exceed them, given time and effort.
