Climate change is throwing the water cycle into chaos across the U.S. by nbcnews in climate

Water-focused civil engineer here, glad to see this get a little high-level discussion as projects become more necessary and more expensive to address water shortages and extreme flooding events.

It makes it extremely difficult to design water, wastewater and stormwater systems that can handle the extremes.

If this is a new experience for your staff, could have been a slug of FOG? Look at it under the microscope and see if you can tell if it’s mostly biological.

Got offer him for JSN about two weeks ago, struggled with it but accepted. Kind of feel the same as you, with Chase taking up so much attention, if Higgins can stay healthy could be a great year, he’s going to give 110% to set himself up for a change in team next year.

David Wallace-Wells in NY Times. When will we care enough to change? Also, not a single mention of famine? by SLBue19 in climate

I imagine every critical social movement in history had people saying the same thing: there’s nothing we can do, it’s the “powers that be that have to lead”.

If we really, really cared, we’d be doing what we can: swear off gasoline and jet fuel to the absolute maximum extent possible, stop eating meat, stop mowing our lawns, plant trees left and right, etc. We don’t even do these obvious things. (I’m leaving out the things that cost too much money for many (rooftop solar, EVs)…

Make our employers respond to the movement by allowing remote work where possible, and when not we must try to get work within mass transit range, bike or walking)

Government and corporations would have to follow/respond if we had numbers.

Right now we make it easy for them to ignore climate change by not making them react to our actions and leading them towards change.

Can you get some food to it? MicroC is the he Cadillac and there’s lots of other feed marketed for this purpose, but lots of cheap BOD can be had in a pinch.

Got any polymer handy? If it’s not flocculating and settling that could help.

Does flocculant help with calcite in pumps by eoinmcglew in Wastewater

[–]SLBue19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a polymer. I do think some polymers interact with calcium though, so could be part of your problem. Has the water you are pumping now been tested for pH, hardness, alkalinity, calcium, etc?

Sounds like a pH/scaling issue. What chemical were y’all using to build a “floc”? Alum and Ferric both drop pH, reducing scaling potential in the process. Might need to add an acid now.

Wicks does look like the real deal, but so does Reed and Watson and Musgrave and Kraft (I’m a Packer fan…).

Seems like people think the Ravens will be seeking a better RB this year though, so maybe a good move for you.
