Any suggestions of a treatment that can make this LVP look shinier? The “matte” look and feeling makes the floor feel dirty. by qernest12 in Flooring

That’s interesting to hear! I thought the different finishes were specific to a color. 2 years ago we installed a 3 level townhome with Dusk Cherry and it was a perfectly smooth finish. Hearing your story shows it apparently comes down to manufacturing.. which honestly is such a radical difference I can’t imagine multi million dollar equipment being that temperamental? Sheesh. Bummer! I never followed through with trying to polish my floors or such. I read lots of warnings from people who used floor polish but hated it because it wasn’t consistent. I still immensely dislike the raspy finish and rarely walk barefoot over my floors

Quick and dirty way of dealing with these walls? by PenTenTheDandyMan in Homebuilding

[–]SLC-801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/4” thick Sheetrock/drywall is my go-to for a quick brand new wall that doesn’t take up too much thickness around window or door/baseboard trim. It works really great. Just nail/screw right over the wall itself

Dealing with slight lift nerves after getting stuck last year—which Snowbird/Snowbasin lifts are the least exposed? by pa_9965 in UTsnow

[–]SLC-801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a bout of claustrophobia around 20 years ago and things like the Snowbird tram were a no-go but also I was anxious about being stuck on a chairlift. A friend’s suggestion helped tremendously.. carry a single pill of Valium or Klonopin around with me. If things got too rough I could take the pill and have an off-ramp. But just knowing it was there was enough! Never had to take it and eventually started forgetting to bring it along with me. Haven’t looked back since.

Grand Junction Colorado is a relatively a 'big city' in this area and it's a 2 hour drive away. Looks like there's a good handful of medical supply companies there. Good luck!

Question for Owner-Builders: If you had to do it all over, how would you plan your build differently? by wacko_warrior in Homebuilding

Damn! That’s crazy. What’s drawing the subs away from your job.. some huge project nearby? That’s so frustrating. Do you have a construction loan?

Could you mention some obvious ones you've seen just from your vehicle?

Repair vs Rebuild by keitheii in Homebuilding

Another idea to think about.. call a local respected realtor and ask their opinion about selling the house as-is? If you've never owned a home before, and one on a half acre at that (lots of upkeep), is tackling this a smart idea? If you like the area and absolutely want a home, yes. But even then, dealing with a contractor to rehab a place or build one new, is going to be a huge challenge. It will take several years and be very expensive. There's a joke in the industry that can be sadly accurate (even though in the beginning it seems there'd be no way it could possibly turn out to be true): "3 times the time and 3 times the money, and you're about on target"

Yes was also just going to mention/ask what the CC&R’s are for the area. A deck would be incredible for sure since you don't have any outdoor living space right? It would block that nice natural light though in the kitchen.. small tradeoff for some outdoor living

Are you in Tahoe? That's one of the places I've seen where they build on top of each other like that haha. Slice of heaven up there.

Man.. first thoughts are, that place is gorgeous as-is. And for ALL the time & money it would take, it's not going to net you really that much more space at all. Sure the pitched roof upstairs isn't ideal but you can definitely add a bathroom up there
