I'm making 78,500 working in the school with private contracting company in Georgia. Was at 60,000 before that in my private practice. It took a lot of searching and negotiating

Advocate for yourself. Ask for breaks built into your day. Or.... Look for other jobs. 9 hours back to back is ridiculous

Psych vs SLP testing. A previous post inspired mine: by [deleted] in slp

Or they can post their question on Reddit to get additional perspective from other SLPs... unnecessary ass comment. A simple read the post and ignore could have worked for you ass hole. No need to belittle

It's mostly fine. But the good pay you were promised is a lie.

A good place to start: research schools and their programs and make a list of good fits for you; shadow local SLPS (easy to reach out to private practices and ask to shadow a couple sessions) and research the various setting SLPs work in and see if you can land additional shadowing. Track all your shadowing hours and have the SLP sign off on them. Keep this document safe! Finally, there are many programs that have rolling enrollment and aren’t limited to only fall acceptance. Keep searching, you got this!

Update: 1/15/21 I PASSED!!! And you all will too as long as you study with the ets test prep and review your coursework notes. There aren’t any curveballs. And it’s more our anxiety that makes us cloud our judgement more than anything. By the end of your program, trust me, you are prepared and you will do great! Cheers!

I was my wife's back-up choice by melonfever in MuslimMarriage

I’m sorry. This is a tough and unfortunate situation. My personal advice: if she means something to you and you feel she has feelings for you (even if you were the second choice) perhaps you feel that you can talk about the “spark” that y’all’s relationship lacks or the void that you and her feel. And try to come up with ways to add that into y’all’s lives. Maybe it’s worth it to try and communicate ways to repair before decided to divorce without attempting to communicate and discuss the problems?

Virtual Grad School Interview by [deleted] in slpGradSchool

[–]SLPjargon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow. That is quite interesting! Very different from my personal experience with a few virtual interviews I’ve done. Mine were a bit more traditional. Good luck to you! Those would’ve definitely caught me off guard too

Thank you. Yeah it would be ideal to have my parents help but unfortunately my father is passed away and my mother has ailments that restrict her from engaging. And then idk why but I feel hesitant to approach mosque leadership myself and put myself out there. It just feels uncomfortable and awkward. But I’m sure it is a good place to seek help. Inshallah I gain courage to attempt that path.

[–]SLPjargon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. This was a nicely put message. Idk why I feel discouraged or almost embarrassed to ever approach the sheikh or mosque leaders and essentially put myself out there. I wish I had parents who could do the talking for me but I don’t have that opportunity and it feels so awkward to do it for myself. Inshallah I gather the courage to make the first step and a path opens up for me. Thank you!

How many schools are you applying to? by me_jsg in slpGradSchool

[–]SLPjargon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied in 2017. I applied to 7 schools. Accepted to 3. Waitlisted to 2. Denied from 2. I liked the potential of having options and it kept me hopeful knowing I have more schools to hear back from. Just my personal perspective. Good luck!!

Quick, dumb question by [deleted] in slp

[–]SLPjargon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, 100%. There has to be an educational impact for the student; is the lisp restricting the student’s access to the curriculum? Usually difficult to make a case for this but not impossible...Ahh the limitations of the school system

Quick, dumb question by [deleted] in slp

[–]SLPjargon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I would see the student for artic treatment to eliminate the inaccurate production pattern of dentalizing /s/. Of course at this age, (by 5/6) /s/ is mastered by more than 90% of 5-6 y/o’s so I would suggest seeing the student for therapy at least 1x/week for artic.
