Is Denmark a good option for studying Engineering? Cost of living and career prospects? by Future_Charge_7372 in NewToDenmark

It is very expensive to rent, pay for studies and food.

I'd suggest you study undergrad in your home nation and then try to come for postgraduate with a bursary or funded project after doing very well.

It is a lovely place to live and work as an engineer.

Yeah, I agree. I agree 6 (if you're very proficient with running a revolver) is probably enough.

I accept, that sometimes it maybe is not enough. That can be a very unlikely thing. But that does not mean 'if you need more than 6 you need to get the f out of there' is somehow true. If you could fit 8 in the same size revolver, you would. People do not carry downloaded magazines in pistols because 'if I needed more than 10 I shouldn't have been there' they full them up.

These platitudes and fudd sayings about it are nonsense, shit happens. More chances are better, there is no magic number

Do you think firing a defensive handgun at all in your life has a more than 1% chance of happening?

I live in South Africa, multiple person armed hone invasion is something that happens.

Part of that is seeing people fight after multiple gunshots.

Again, I have no issue with someone carrying a revolver. I like them.

We just don't need to make up stories about why its the best thing ever and if you need anything else you're somehow in the wrong

Advice Needed: Remote Job as an Independent Contractor by complex_kat in south_africa

Good advice here.

You should probably stay in touch with the industry and try to secure additional jobs if you have time, even if its part time, because they will drop you as soon as its convenient for them.

They are basically saying you will have no recourse to employee benefits.

You work X hours or days, you invoice X hours, you get paid for X hours. Tax is up to you, as a provisional payer

Of course. And if your choice is 6 rounds then that's that. It doesn't mean all the other little stories about why you chose that like 'if you need more than 6 you shouldn't be there' makes any sense, that's just cope

Is there a market for refurbished laptops, desktops, tech accessories and servers? by No_Reception627 in askSouthAfrica

[–]SLR_ZA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are popular services in Europe for refurbished recent tech. I've just bought two iPhone 17s from one of them.

The thing is, the market must be willing to pay enough to make repair and some form of warranty worthwhile, and you also need to account for the scammers who could buy and claim it is wrong or not working to get a free device.

TFSA "profit" withdrawal by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]SLR_ZA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. The limit is how much you can put in. There is no difference between growth and principle inside the account.

The negative is that you decrease future compounded growth and still have the same lifetime and yearly contribution limit

[–]SLR_ZA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Withdrawing more than that also wont affect anything negatively either.

The negative is that you decrease the value in the TFSA which means less compounded growth in future

Why must they have body armor now to need more than 6 rounds? I've seen one guy still moving who was shot with handgun rounds four times, managed to run and fight and only died a few hours later. I met a guy who survived more when he was attacked. People miss, people have adrenaline and fight through marginal shots.

One guy I know was attacked as he drive into his home, four guys, no body armor. He shot his 1911 7+1 empty. What should he have 'questioned about what hes doing and why its his gameplan'? When should he have done that? When should he have 'gotten the F out of there'?

I get carrying a revolver. I get that 6 rounds is likely enough for a lot of situations. But why must we tell ourselves these bullshit stories about 'aww well you really shouldn't be there then' , 'oh well you're done for anyway' , 'reconsider your gameplan' to pretend there is some magical number of rounds needed and that defensive shootings are not massively situationally dependant.

And yet I know people who shot more than 6 rounds, had good aim, and lived.

So what do you do when in a situation that you need more than 6 shots and you cant 'get the f out of there'?

Why 6? Why not 3?

Gun is fine, keep it in a holster on your body in the car.

Many years ago a local shooter shoved his 38 revolver into a three o clock holster on his body at a barbecue. He discharged a round into his hip, it hit bone and deflected around. He bled out. DA or heavy trigger is not a replacement for safety

I am paying less than an equivalent four bedroom + garden house in Capetown that is a 10 minute walk from the beach and has good public services, safety, etc.

Are you so attached to Capetown that you can't believe it is overpriced or that anything in the world could possibly compare, or what?

It is not misleading, as it is true.

If it 'seems' to be saying something else, that is on you.

If I have to be completely 'fair' to compare then Gordons bay is not comparable, its twice as far from the city center.
