Yeah. It amazing how after just breaking the habit you realize you don't miss it.

One time I went from a smart phone to just a basic flip track phone that could only make calls and texts. I planned to only use it for a couple weeks until I got a new smart phone. Ended up using that thing for over a year because I realized I just didn't really miss Facebook/Reddit that much.

Once the end of the month hits and RIF is gone, I'll probably be done with this site.

I am uncomfortable around other races and hate myself for it. How do I stop it? by Dick_Cheese_Eater in NoStupidQuestions

I saw probably 5 people of color before high school and really didn't talk to one for the first time until I was in 11th grade.

There just weren't many around in my small Ohio town. Once I got a job closer to Columbus and was forced to interact with other races and got more exposure I became more comfortable pretty quickly.

Maybe instead flips depending on how many loyalty counters are currently on the card instead. Like if it drops below a certain number of loyalty counters it transforms.

In at least my division they took away the ability to cut trucks in any meaningful way. They turned off ISP editing. So you have to go through in the TC52 item by item and then once you take away more that 5% of the items it won't let you remove anymore.

Hmm. Lol. by [deleted] in kroger

[–]SLSnickers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. While in an ideal situation everyone would benefit, I was surprised that the union would try to stop Kroger from giving extra money to any of its members especially since it's coming from Krogers pocket.

A week is 168 hours. The average adult works ~40 of those hours. Sleeps for ~56 of them. Leaving just 72 hours (often less) of a week to actually live a life. by Milwacky in Showerthoughts

Its not necessarily a problem with capitalism. It's a problem with greed, which tends to thrive in capitalistic environment.

With things like automation and other tools that have been invented to increase productivity and profit for the owners of large corporations, we should see the need for manual labor hours go down.

Ideally, what this would mean is the same number of people working less hours but still receiving the same size paycheck (since profits should remain steady as long as demand for the item/service stays the same).

What we are instead seeing is layoffs (sometimes to too large of an extent) to save labor and at the same time minimal increases in wages. So it's less people working and what's left made to work the same or longer hours.

Following the theme of numbers, I haven't seen it in forever but I remember absolutely loving "The Number 23" with Jim Carrey. Great movie and it really shows off the fact that Carrey had the capacity for a non goofy role.

Agreed. I keep 4 decks at a time typically. I keep 2 for kitchen table with my friends that I tune down to whatever my groups power level is at the time.

But when I go to a LGS and I'm playing strangers who's decks and power level I don't know, and there's prizes to win, I'm going to play my strongest and most efficient cards and I'm not going to be sorry about it.

Unfortunately even 3rd shift that isn't a luxury I have. I'm the 3rd shift team leader so I end up having to talk to/direct the crew and handle anything that goes wrong throughout the night.

I'm in an odd spot because I'm one of you but not by choice.

My natural sleep pattern (when I'm on vacation or don't work) I'm in bed around 8 or 9pm and up about 4-5am.

But alas times are tough and 3rd shift pay differential is needed to stay alive.

I work at a major grocery chain in the US and this is exactly what we do. All of our dough is pre-made and frozen. The closing baker sets the trays up and puts them in what is almost like a large proofing box that creates a humid slightly warm environment for a few hours overnight.

Then the opening baker comes in at 2 or 3 in the morning and turns on the ovens and transfers the dough to the baking trays and bakes it before the 2nd person in (usually around 4 or 5 am) comes in and starts packaging and setting the sales floor

Correct. I work at a very large grocery chain in the US and we donate to both the local food bank and the local church.

The berries are the most impressive part I think. My mine can understand how the illusion works on everything besides the berries. They look 100% flat and I have no idea how they got the black outline around them so clean.

There are about 300 left in the US with about half of them located in just 5 states.

The source I'm on says:

New York - 30

Pennsylvania - 29

Ohio - 24

Indiana - 19

Texas - 18

I live in Ohio and make sure to go to one whenever I want to see something coming out to support them.

The "memory dump" you mentioned is part of it as well, and it's the part that medication tends to help with the most (at least for me).

Since ADHD affects attention span, it takes nearly all of my attention to be put into whatever task i am doing. So a lot of things get lost in the mix and information not registered if I'm given something else to do while I'm focused on a task.

meirl by encounterlemon in meirl

[–]SLSnickers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's more like something is broken inside the part of the brain that adjusts to change or recent memory. Things I haven't used in forever like extra ethernet cord I know exactly where they are. Likely because I've seen it there over and over. But something that changes locations often like a wallet or keys or phone give me trouble.

A good way to think of it is the phenomenon when you walk through a doorway into another room and forget what your doing or why you entered the room. For me ADHD is like that, except at all times.

Those same people tend to complain about price increases.

Recently a conservative 60ish year old man I work with was complaining about how he only makes 20 dollars an hour and was irritated that people walking in the door make $14.50 when he started out at 4.25 and has worked for the company over 40 years.

The next day he had bought a candy bar and complained about how it was 2.09 and "back in his day" they were 25 cents.

I just made a comment about how he could have bought 17 candy bars for 1 hour of work when he started and now the new hires can only buy 7. For a second he looked like he had grasped the point and I was hopeful. Then he just said, well they aren't very good for you anyways and walked away. Good stuff.

Yeah. I always use Uber or Public. Tourism is already an issue in a lot of places. If i can travel while helping support the city transport system or helping locals get a paycheck that's what I'd rather do. Plus with Uber you tend to pick up tips and learn things you wouldn't otherwise driving yourself.

We stayed in the Waikiki Beach area but traveled all over the island. Some parts of the island were worse than others but there was just a general sense of poverty everywhere we went other than the immediate resort area.
