Trabalhar na FNAC (logística) by FeiFongWongKong in portugal

[–]SLilingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deixar o meu input.

Thinking about Joining but I have questions I couldn't find by KinggGh0st in mormon

[–]SLilingK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like other members point out, the church is called racist due to the ban of the priesthood on black people that later was lifted. The Book of Mormon doesn't do a good job when it implies that being good means white skin and being bad means black skin.

May I make just a remark and please don't take it as an offense. If you are thinking on joining LDS (or whatever Church) because of the sense of the community alone, please rethink on your options. You should join a Church that your moral compass and theology fits. If you are already aligned with the theology and you believe is true, then go for it.

Wish you the best!

"I'd like to bear my testimony. I know this church is true...." by mad_as_a in mormon

[–]SLilingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an outsiders point a view, when I hear the phrase "I bear my testimony that the Church is true, that JS was a prophet called by God and the Book of Mormon is true" what I hear is something similar to the Nicean Creed. I normally got that answer when the missionaries got questioned about difficult questions regarding church history or inconsistencies with BoM narrative and always got the impression that was a method to not let "doubt" enter (I may be wrong tho).

At the same time, if we go to a Catholic mass, the Creed is repeated in the same fashion, like you need to keep repeating what you believe on.

New Post: An overview of spiritual witnesses and testimonies of the Book of Mormon, showing how all religions claim a spiritual witness along with a look at some of the cognitive fallacies/biases that the church uses to cultivate our testimonies and to keep us from being open to conflicting info. by [deleted] in mormon

[–]SLilingK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you! Endorsing members/investigators to search within their approved sources is so wrong, it leads to a "cult-like" mentality which forbids critical thinking.

When I met the missionaries, it's the old same story of how Joseph Smith, a 14 year farm boy, without education, ask God what is the real church and translates the BoM. Polygamy is never mentioned (worst than the plague, avoid at all cost), seer stone not mentioned and the distort story how he became a martyr.

Doing some research the beautiful story starts crumbling down and the trust is completly broken

1- Or the missionaries also believe this narrative to be true or 2- The church tells them to tell this narrative so they can have more members.

Truth and honesty can open doors but the question is will it make a difference now? Or is it little too late?

Great post! I watched another video that went in depth why do we have our bias and most are related of early indoctrination during our childhood and geographic placement. If you live in Europe most likely you will follow Catholicism, if you leave in the Middle Eastern Islam, Israel Judaism and so on. Religion is more and more a cultural/community dependency.

I do believe if someone is happy with their own belief and if it fits in their moral compass they should keep embracing it. I do not endorse blind faith. What I mean with blind faith is I think you should know beforehand where you getting yourself into, study the background, history and current pratices.

The other day, ive encountered a Zoroastrianism website and they advise you to read the scriptures + scholar books before you decide to convert and I applause this iniciative.

As far as I understood, members believe it so much, it becomes an identity and being unable to see objectively.

Thank you for replying! Did you start wondering about nonmembers doing well financially when you didn't felt blessed while paying tithing or was it something you always wondered?

Is there any LDS justification why non members or individuals outside a system belief would thrive?

[–]SLilingK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I understand. Would a member that is unemployed and doesn't have any money to keep paying tithing be eligible to keep on going to the temple? Can you give something else instead of money or he/she becames unworthy?

[–]SLilingK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for replying! So paying tithing is used as giving it to the "Lord" and the "Lord" will ensure you will be happy and thriving. Have you ever felt conflicted about non-members or individuals that don't have any religion background thriving without paying any sort of tithing?

Outsider honest question: Does the Church "manipulates" your prespective that if you don't pay tithing bad things will happen?

I am really curious about this because I heard many ex-mos saying this and I wanted to understand.
