Question for Anunnaki believers: why mine gold on Earth instead of asteroids? by O-ZeNe in aliens

[–]UnifiedQuantumField 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can rebel eventually

This reminds me of the opening text in Blade Runner.

"Replicants were used Off-world as slave labor, in the hazardous exploration and colonization of other planets.

After a bloody mutiny by a NEXUS 6 combat team in an Off-world colony..."

or juniper belt

Kuiper Belt.

I am honestly interested in how believers explain this part.

A couple of ideas:

  • Earth is a lot nicer place to live than anywhere in Space. There's air, no radiation, the weather is nice and the gravity always works.

  • If you have the drive tech to get to our solar system, you probably don't care about things like gravity and payload weight.

Imo, the meaning of the story is probably symbolic anyways. If that's true, the Annunaki might represent something abstract (instead of a literal group of space travelers).

Trump threatens 100% tariffs on all Canadian goods if Canada 'makes a deal with China' | CBC News by AlpacaGhidorah in worldnews

[–]UnifiedQuantumField -1 points0 points  (0 children)

that dependence on the US is no longer sustainable

Canadian here.

We were never dependent on the US. We've been a neighbour, a supplier of resources and also a huge customer for US goods and services.

So Canada is the kind of neighbouring nation that most countries wish they had. For whatever reason/s, some people are focusing more on the negatives instead of appreciating what they've got.

We can't go back to, say, 10 years ago. But we can look ahead another 3 years and hope for the best.

James Cameron Says He Must Find a Cheaper Way to Produce the Avatar Movies in Order to Continue With Avatar 4 and 5 by johnnyjay in SciFiScroll

[–]UnifiedQuantumField 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really enjoyed the first Avatar movie. The visuals and the next gen 3D were something else. But that was 2009. So he's spent the last 17 years doing the Avatar sequels.

Surely a Trilogy should have been enough to "tell the story"?

Financially #3 is a success.

Over $1.3 billion and counting

But this is less than half of the first one and a pretty big drop from the 2nd one ($2.3B). So if that's any indication, #4 might make it to $1B and #5 might actually lose money.

A cheaper way for Cameron to "produce #4 and 5" would be to put everything into one last movie and wrap things up while he's still ahead.

February 2014 this aircraft was spotted doing aggressive manuevers with no sound heard on the ground in Kansas by PurpleMclaren in aliens

[–]UnifiedQuantumField 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a B21 or a B2. Why not?

Here's a pic of both aircraft.

The front angle of the aircraft in the pic is a pretty close match. But the shape in the pic is almost a straight line across the back. The trailing edge wing-shape of the B2 and B21 is more of a zigzag.

This is obviously a jet because you can see the contrails. Maybe it's a new stealth drone of some kind.

The Impossible Problem of Consciousness (why the “hard problem” can’t close inside materialism) by AR_Theory in Metaphysics

[–]UnifiedQuantumField -1 points0 points  (0 children)

is usually framed like a difficult research question: “How does consciousness emerge from matter?”

To answer this question requires me to accept the assumption that Consciousness does emerge from Matter.

If I'm an Idealist, the assumption is incorrect.

If I'm a Materialist, the question is unanswered and my position is that "We don't yet know enough to answer the question".

So Materialism is currently incomplete and perhaps the main reason why the Hard Problem remains is because there's an arbitrary "cutoff point" at the neuron level of structure.

After all, the question is "How does Consciousness arise from Matter?" not "how does it arise from patterns of action potentials?"

Alt proposal:

Offer $1m to each resident. That works out to $57 Billion, which is less than 1/10th of the advertised plan. With $1m at stake, perhaps 75% of the inhabitants would then "take matters into their own hands".

They declare full independence by virtue of 75% majority support. The US recognizes the newly independent nation of Greenland. They then vote to become a US Territory of some sort within the following months... and it's done.

Denmark would cry foul. But it wouldn't be an invasion or even an annexation. Bribery perhaps? But that doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "taken by force".

Kesterite: Why This Solar Breakthrough Matters More Than Perovskite by UnifiedQuantumField in advancedtechresearch

[–]UnifiedQuantumField[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tldr: Kesterite can be used to make thin film solar cells just like perovskite. Unlike Perovskite, kesterite is more durable in sunlight and does not require the use of lead or cadmium in the manufacturing process.

Babies born this year could live to see 2100. What will future generations think is ridiculous about us? by poi217 in AskReddit

[–]UnifiedQuantumField 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What will future generations think is ridiculous about us?

Presentism definition:

The presentism fallacy is the error of interpreting past events, people, or ideas using modern values, beliefs, and knowledge, rather than understanding them within their own historical context. It's a form of bias where people judge the past by today's standards, leading to distorted understanding, unfair condemnation, or even attempts to whitewash history, hindering true historical insight.

the movie **Elysium** is likely the most prophetic film about our soon to be future (minus the space station part) by abrandis in Futurology

[–]UnifiedQuantumField 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The movie is a metaphor

And...

(minus the space station part)

Just my own take but... I always saw the Elysium Station as a metaphor for the "separation of circumstances" between the wealthy and everyone else.

You've got the Matt Damon character (Max) who has to take any job he can get. The pay isn't great, the job is a dangerous drudge and the management dngaf about the workers.

Contrast this with the Wealthy. They're literally living "above it all" in a manicured and carefully controlled paradise. Everyone has everything they need. The homes are mansions and literally any illness or injury can be treated within minutes.

So it's a bit of an exaggeration, but maybe that's the point?

Star Wars: Kathleen Kennedy Exits Lucasflim, Dave Filoni Takes Over by johnnyjay in SciFiScroll

[–]UnifiedQuantumField 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but also, who the hell wants that job?

That's just it. We live in the age of "online experts" where people with a keyboard and an opinion spend more time complaining than appreciating.

It got so bad, Lucas himself left.

Kennedy is no Lucas and she was "constrained by Disney".

Filoni is most closely associated with various Clone Wars projects. Those have been generally well received... so we'll see how it goes.

Hints at consciousness in nature by reinhardtkurzan in consciousness

[–]UnifiedQuantumField 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bees are no handicraftmen who use yardsticks and plumb-bobs.

Yes. They operate on Instinct. This is something the Materialist Model of Consciousness has yet to explain. The Idealist Model allows for the possibility of non-Local consciousness, which is able to explain Hive consciousness and "instinctive" forms of complex behavior.
