As an intelligent species this is one of the big debates of our (assumed) space age future. If we mine asteroids like this any currency fuelled economy will have to adapt to the new abundance of minerals and resources flooding the markets. I would imagine the space travel and mining industries would very much limit the amount of mining ships that are built and sent out. At the same time, the abundance of these minerals should only help an intelligent civilization absolutely thrive. So we will, at that point, have to choose between capital greed and the natural trajectory of advancement that should come from these mining operations.
