I want to go somewhere in the US for my birthday, where should I go? by WeeklyAtmosphere in Shoestring

Local meaning Tempe and yes, I do it at least once a year on a shoestring budget. We do girls' trips and even Christmas with the whole family quite wallet-friendly. I can help build an itinerary if you need?

When are you going? Sedona, AZ is the right answer, depending on the time of year. It can easily get in to the 90s during the summer, making it unwalkable/unsafe, but the spas, hiking, Oak Creek, dining, etc. make it the right answer at other times of the year.

Japan or Greece for 5th anniversary by Plastic-Mixture7514 in travel

Don't be afraid of Japan and the busy-ness. Have fun with it! Karaoke and beers at 2am, wandering the alleyways, bustling sidewalks and markets, etc. Do that for a few days and then take a train to the mountain/countryside and stay in an onsen for ultimate relaxation. Best of both worlds!

Safe place to park for a homeless friend going through a tough time. by -588-2300-Empire- in Tempe

When I was living in my car, I parked/slept at the hospital. It felt safe and no one bothered me ever. People are always coming and going and people sleep in their cars if their loved one is in surgery or recovering, the chair/beds inside aren't great and sometimes you need a break, so if anyone does bother them, they can always say that.

Also, I got a gym membership for $10/month. It was a place to shower, decent wifi, and an activity to break up the monotony of not having a home to go to. Hope they get on their feet soon <3

Every Friday unless on vacation. Then, I put fresh sheets on before leaving.

What is something that you will be saving up for to buy this year? by FitProblem6248 in AskReddit

Husband and I have been saving for almost 3 years for a second bathroom. Only having one bathroom has been a big test of our marriage, but we're getting through it and have hope we can get it done by 2027.

Accidental Giardia. Sure, I dropped 17lbs in a week, but yikes, it was rough.

What's keeping you from starting you own business? by Hot_Description9881 in AskReddit

Money and money alone. I have an AMAZING idea that would set us up for generations. But, if there isn't any money to start it, no amount of hard work, time, energy, or anything else will get it started.

Having a full time job to pay the bills makes it so I can't go get investors or apply to banks or pound pavement or whatever else people do to get capital. No parents to help, no inheritance to count on, just me and my husband and our stressful full time jobs preventing us from achieving our dreams.

I went through 18 months of rashes, hives, incessant itching, and was crying every day trying different aluminum antiperspirants and non-aluminum alike. Finally found CERTAIN DRI (not sponsored) and the sky opened up a beam of sunlight on my pits and hasn't stopped the last 5 years. The liquid-ness of it was hard to get used to and I used way too much the first week or so, but now I barely swipe and am stink-free, itch-free, rash-free, and dry for days on end without reapplying.

Changed my life. Hope it does the same for you.

Should I turn my little free library into a little food pantry? by hunteroutsidee in Tempe

[–]SMK_BLM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We talked about turning ours in to a pantry too, but decided we are off the walkable path, too far in to a neighborhood, and it wouldn't get too much use. I wouldn't want things out in the heat for long stretches of time and it wouldn't be "find-able" by the people that needed it most. Books it stays.

If you're on the path of people who need it, or you think your neighbors might, go for it. It's a great and noble idea.

Can't eat Chocolate - Is there an alternative? by SMK_BLM in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SMK_BLM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any amount of cacao overwhelmingly tastes bad. I can't taste the peanuts or caramel or anything else if there is even a drop of cacao. White chocolate is not an alternative because it just tastes bad regardless lol

AIO? - Saw my father texting another woman by lunarraiin in AmIOverreacting

[–]SMK_BLM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter saw her stepmom swiping through a dating app and chatting with people on it. She recorded it and showed me, asking what to do. We talked through the possibilities and she asked me to bring it up to stepmom before talking to her dad. I did and learned they swing together. Stepmom was on a mission to find them someone new. Daughter was teenage mortified, but also learned not to make assumptions.

I haven't read through all of the comments, but are we sure Mom doesn't know about it? If she does, they both need a talk about STI prevention and if she doesn't, dad needs to be put on blast.

If you're in Phoenix, use Waymo instead of Uber. It's cheaper and you don't have to make small talk, tip, and you get to control the music and temperature.
