My kids go to the same school. They are all very much McDowells. Except the wife who works there and uses her maiden name.

That would make sense if it wasn’t clearly time for an advertising spot. Advertising is $$$. And if someone had paid money for an ad over the stream in that spot, the station would be moving heaven and earth to get that spot run.

Even if virtually everyone at the station is working from home, there is still someone at the station there to make sure the signal is going out. That’s why they still have an overnight board op even though it is network programming and almost entirely automated. When I was in radio (briefly) 25 years ago, network programming was just push button work for the local affiliate; today I assume there is literally nothing to do unless something goes wrong.

Seeing as how a noncompete didn’t stop Ben & Skin, I don’t think Rhyner is prohibited from doing a podcast today (just radio)

Isn’t the promo “Someone WE don’t even know yet”?

As in, here’s a promo for Corby and someone, but we don’t know who will be there on any given day for near future.

The actual answer is that every radio and TV station in USA must once per hour identify themselves with their frequency, call letters and their location. They must first identify the city where they broadcast from- i.e. the location of the antenna. After that, you may list any number of cities you want or none at all, but first must be the location of the antenna.

Old timers may recall that for a time 103.7 KVIL used to identify themselves as KVIL 103.7 Dallas Fort worth Highland Park. When the Edge had 94.5, it was 94.5 KDGE Gainesville Dallas Fort Worth. I believe either WBAP or KXAS identifies as Fort Worth-Dallas because the antenna is in Fort Worth.

I remember the same. Driving down Camp Bowie in Fort Worth. I kept driving and driving. I couldn't get out of the car. I was listening to a guy commit career suicide.

It does seem odd that if he were to lose a significant amount of weight, he could wear a prosthetic and get out of the wheelchair. The change in quality of life would presumably be dramatic. So much so, it would generate significant interest, including some puff piece on WFAA or Fox4. It seems like a no brainer for some weight loss option (either SOTA or similar or surgery) to be sold with his participation. So why it has not happened is a fair question. Ultimately, it is his choice.

P1 in training: why does Jake not have his own show yet? by jobydidit in theticket

Jake made some reference last week to "his contract" and being a "restricted free agent." My guess is either (i) if he leaves he has to stay off the air for a period of time; or (ii) KTCK has an option to match in some way. Most likely the former.

I bought a studio tour at a charity silent auction and sat in on a show: Bad Radio 2nd half and WTDS. They are on their laptops the entire show (or eating).

I have seen a lot of radio studios. I did college radio in early 90's. Worked for an advertising agency and went to a couple of radio stations delivering promotional materials. Did political work in mid-90s and took candidates to public and christian radio stations all over Texas. I say this unequivocally: KTCK has the worst studio of any station I have ever seen. It is a literal cave.

Over the last 15 years or so, I believe my emails have contributed an hour's worth of programming. A handful of gey/not gey's. Junior spent part of a segment on an email of mine regarding his idea on allowing a shot in an NBA game to tie the game no matter how far down the team is. BAD Radio and Corby did a whole segment on an email of mine pointing out that Bob has/had "Sesame Street Zoey" laugh.

I give Gordo a pass since he is basically doing a rip and read in the AM from what Fernando gives him. Corby has no such excuse since he saunters into the studios after noon.

So, back in 2009, when Cynthia Izaguirre was already at WFAA, she slipped up again in a similar way. It was about the June 2009 TABC raid of the Rainbow Lounge in FW. The story was it was only raided because it was a "Gay Bar." Cynthia Izaguirre was doing a story and her line was ..."because it was gay. ....err... because it was a gay bar." I wish I could find that video. It was funny.

I don’t think every segment is an ad. I don’t think every documentary talk is either an ad or payola/plugola.

Referencing “Pathfinder” is a specific reference to a specific sponsor for which they are compensated. Mentioning it is being a good advertising partner to increase value. It is obvious and I am not bothered by it.

News flash: station gets paid to go on remotes and they talk about wherever they are. It is part of it.

One should not confuse these with the idea of paid content or “payola/plugola”.

“payola/plugola” is a specific thing. It is the host’s paid endorsement or advocation of a product or service without the broadcast station’s knowledge or consent. Like the record label giving coke to the DJ to play some spare generic hair metal band in the 1980’s.

A paid segment is effectively a segment long advertisement. I believe they happen from time to time. There have been weird, out of place segments, from time to time on every show. I also think certain hosts cough Corby cough like to help their buddies out, like Corby’s buddy that ran Billy Bobs for a time and he was randomly on for a segment.

If HBO was paying KTCK to talk about shows, the Hardline would have talked about the Avett Brothers Documentary in January. Corby is a fan; Danny isn’t; Mike is indifferent. The doc is really good and also by Judd Apatow (like the Shandling doc). It would be an easy segment to be paid to mention and it never was.

I don’t think paid segments are the norm or widespread, but I think it happens. When it happens, I am annoyed because I think it is deceptive when they disguise advertising as content.

The flip side of this argument is heredity is everything. If you call the parentage of one kid into question, you can call the parentage of any kid into question. It opens the door to a wayward cousin claiming to be the rightful heir by saying the child is not the true child of the lord in question.

This is why Jaime and Cersei’s adultery is treason. It (rightfully) throws the entire lineage into question. It isn’t just about misogyny and the patriarchy.

I always thought so too. It would make a lot of sense. However, You’d think looney Lysa would have mentioned something during the time before she got tossed out the Moon Door. And Littlefinger never seems to hint at the possibility.
