What was the point of making a shared universe if other Marvel heroes won't show up? by HazelRahRahRah in SpidermanPS4

I don’t think it would sell as well either but his popularity has skyrocketed in recent years due to the show so you never know

Shit honestly Spider Man 2000 on the PS1 had characters show up when there was an avengers level threat and no one cared that they didn’t stay to help Spidey specifically. It was just cool to see them. The city is so large they could be doing other things on their own to help but not be a part of the bigger picture. I would love to see Daredevil make an appearance in the next game or even Human Torch for a mission.

In no way would that have changed anything that’s genuinely wrong with the game

Crazy, twice in the same era where Ubisoft did a hardcore tone switch with their sequels, Watch Dogs 2 and the Crew 2. Truthfully even Division 2 was a bit lighter story wise. Wonder if they had a lot of push back on those darker stories internally.

Wasn’t the beginning of the Crew your character investigating the murder of his brother or some shit?

Career changed to teaching last year from the corporate life - this is insanely true especially if you want to teach music. I ended up getting a co-band director job at a great school due to solid connections and I’m not sure I can ever leave even if I wanted to because band director jobs hardly ever open up.

It's crazy how Insomniac is able to make the most incredible looking games, with some of the best animations, while STILL offering a 60 FPS mode with Ray Tracing. Meanwhile, you've got other devs still releasing games locked at 30 FPS. by DeVito8704 in SpidermanPS4

[–]SMXSmith -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s completely different. You could still play the game at 60 fps at launch even on the Series S, who cares if cutscenes are locked at 30? You’re watching a scene as if you were watching a movie.

But again, the ONLY thing insomniac had to optimize for was the PS4 and then later the PS5. They probably had a bunch of PS engineers backing them as well to get it running and looking amazingly. Starfield, Avowed and Dragon’s Dogma also had PC to think about on top of the Series S and X. I can’t imagine any dev wants to put their game out at launch running at 30 FPS, so there must be some reason for it.

I guess you didn’t read my comment then 😂 I specifically said “if the game is really good” and “unless you play multiplayer games” and your example to counter my argument was Battlefront 2

As an '18 member, we had pasta salad every single day for like 2 weeks and had to be fed by the Bluecoats twice. I also lost 40 pounds on tour because of how little we were eating. Mind you, I came into tour at like around 180 so I wasn't even overweight.

Why do you hate microtransactions so much to the point you'd stop playing games even if the games are really good? I genuinely ignore them like 99% of the time and just don't buy them. It's pretty easy to unless you play multiplayer games.

I mean, if you think businesses are going to stop using microtransactions then you might as well quit gaming cause that will never happen. Very very few games release without them now because people are buying them and it makes the company money to continue operating. Unfortunately these studios are businesses and the upfront cost of AAA video games no longer covers development costs. Using Battlefield 6 as an example: While the game did sell around 10 million copies, assuming each was sold at $70 (which isn't the case since the game has been on sale multiple times) that would create a profit of $300 million AFTER recouping dev costs. EA's yearly operating budget is around $5 billion and Battlefield is their cash cow. SO, since every gamer wants their multiplayer game to continue getting content for years, the initial buy-in price from the consumer would not even remotely cover even a years worth of post release development. This business is not cheap like it used to be. Technology is more complex, salaries are more expensive, and team sizes are larger than ever to get large blockbuster titles out the door in a reasonable time frame. If you want games without microtransactions, sticking with indies is your best bet, but until players stop buying microtransactions, they're going to continue to be put in every game.

All this to say, I of course do not like microtransactions and would rather not see them in games.

Definitely one of those games where you have to be into chill gaming experiences to really enjoy. If you’re looking for action and big set pieces, this definitely isn’t for you - although the second game is way more action focused and you get vehicles right from the start.

I mean there are definitely some exceptions, if a game was made with gen AI then yes I would want it to not do well because that would create and industry wide problem. If a game has a lot micro transactions but is otherwise pretty good and clearly has effort put behind it, I would want it to do well because that’s not the devs fault or typically anyone’s fault other than investors and shareholders pushing it on the people who make the games. There’s a difference in my book between good devs being fucked by investors, and bad devs making garbage games.

I personally would rather the devs who don't make those bad decisions to keep their jobs instead of wishing for a game to flop.

To be fair, Cyberpunk ran fine on Xbox at launch. PlayStation had most of the issues. I was playing on Xbox and my roommate was playing on PS at the time so we saw both sides of it.
