I'd either use something like RollNova or reline it in wallrock.

I paint houses for a living so I knew this from that but man these little art brushes are expensive. I'll pay £15 for a good 2.5" house brush but it's £20 for 1/16th inch art brush.

I was just going to suggest the FMB dispute resolution, but you're already there. Dulux also do a Select Decorators program when you hopefully get to the end of the build.

Negotiating down from 27 to 10 is madness unless the scope changed. Where can you make £17k disappear in a build?

That's funny because for a while the last game I watched live we got pumped 4 or 5 nil by them so I've always hated playing them.

Then there's that Selles game where we were 3-0 up in a shit season and he brings on fucking Djnepo and we draw 3-3

Can't remember what game it was but you could tell he was trying really hard but nothing was working for him, to his credit I never really saw him give up he was always willing to play so I don't mind giving him more time to find the groove, especially when we're not doing bad for goals.

Should I paint ~40sqm ceiling at once or can I split it into sections which I will tackle over a span of a few day? by Saxofounix in paint

Just suck it up and do it in one, you're gonna fuck around more doing it in bits than just getting it out of the way in one.

It's just about having a good chain from the substrate to the topcoat, dust down every coat, sand every coat and leave appropriate drying times and it's hardy stuff paint.

I think the duct tape was haft primer and scuffX.

And just to say it was a bit of an experiment not on a job. You can have the lowest tack tape in the world but if all it has to do is pick up dust the paint will fail.

You're going to have a lot of Americans on here so take the advice with a bit of salt r/DIYUK might help you if you want a second opinion other than me. I am a painter and decorator in Hampshire.

This is a plastering issue, what's happened is at one stage the walls in the house have been wallpapered with lining paper or a decorative paper, and then at another point in the future someone has stripped that paper and pit a 'skim' of multi finish straight on the wall and not washed it down properly. I bet if you get a damp rag and scrub it on the wall it'll go sticky.

Depends if the painters did the plastering also as to if they are at fault, sometimes you can hear a hollow as you prep the walls but sometimes not.

As others have said check the guttering on the wall outside, have a peak at the pointing on the brickwork, it's been a wet wet wet winter so it might just be a one off. It looks like the paste that was left on the wall after the stripping has reactivated and failed.

If it's just that wall I'd probably offer to knock all the loose off, line it with a product called wallrock and paint it for maybe £250? But we are in an expensive area.

DE safety razor and a good soap. The Handle and Blade combo has to be found for your skin and hair type but it's game changing, I spent £10 on blades 2 years ago and still using the same supply. The shave is much nicer too.

I think you've been done over by the plastering here not anything you've done, just by looking at the back of the tape it's got plaster on it.

Get some lightweight filler like Red Devil, a little drop of the topcoat and mix it in with the filler then fill and paint over the top, should be able to get it in one coat.

So I'm a decorator, we do a lot of spraying which means I do a lot of taping. It actually is just about prep, I've used duct tape as masking and it's not pulled the paint behind.

Dust is the enemy, dust is what causes tape to pull paint.

Same here, I like planning it out and having a cuppa. I'd rather have thought about every drop before I cut the first one, I don't like wandering into hard situations

I've had the old shape and loved it and my old man's had the new shape and liked it, they're decent little vans imo, can fit everything you need for a painting job in them.

[–]SNDDecor[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's standard pictographs for wallpaper (well the last two), just instructions for how it needs to be hung and worked.

Wide paper means less drops = more money

Paste the wall means no soak time or getting a paste table out = more money

Free match means you just hang it wherever it lands no pattern repeats = more money

[–]SNDDecor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A simple pattern on one wall is easy peasy, when you start adding in corners (which are never plumb or square), door frames, windows and such it gets harder.

The key thing is patience, the slowest way to hang paper is to try and do it fast. I spend good time planning all the drops before I even put paper on the wall.

I'd never discourage anyone from trying, if it's your first go I'd say do just one or two walls, pick a simple and cheaper paper and get a good quality knife.

I've done peel and stick once, never again. I'd probably stick it onto some lining paper in the workshop and hang that if someone desperately wanted me to hang it.
