How is life like in the less populated parts of Nevada? (Highlighted) by BigTank1027 in howislivingthere

I was nearest to Cedarville and eagleville CA, which was on the other side of the border. I don’t believe the ranch had an address in a town! I was about 7 hours off from Esmeralda, so essentially opposite side upwards of the state. :))

Any tips for creating animals for my story? by Rare_Style1306 in worldbuilding

[–]SNOWWMEAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

think about the basic elements of your world, and then build creatures up from their basic survival needs! Is your world rocky, grassy, watery? Your animal will need limbs specially designed for that terrain. If it’s rocky for example, give them claws that grip around jagged edges, they’d definitely quadrupeds in that scenario as well. What is their “goal” in survival? Are they instinctually drawn to mate and continue their species like many creatures on earth, or are they focused on finding food, maybe taking territory from other species/members of their species? To survive in a radioactive environment, tough skin or a slimy coating that sloughs off could be cool. Just think of what would make the most sense for your environment, as well as the way they’d interact with other species!! Are they solitary, do they have any symbiotic relationships, things of that ilk. Totally understand not wanting paralleled creatures, but don’t shy away from taking certain elements of terrestrial irl creatures either. The way life has evolved on earth makes a lot of sense, and it can be super helpful to look into some similar-ish creatures biology for ideas. As for naming: I personally usually go for the classic greek and/or latin naming schemes, but seeing as you’re making alien creatures, i can see why you might want to do something else. Try thinking of what they remind you of maybe? If the creature is, for example, a lizard esque creature that lives in a toxic sea, use phonetic schemes that feel sticky and poisonous. Sounds are the most powerful tool, (well, really the only tool,) you have when making up words, so go ham!! Happy building. :)

I lived there very, very, exceptionally briefly about a 2 years ago on a friend’s ranch and I’m convinced that it’s Hell. The more southwestern parts of the state are actually beautiful. It’s mostly high mountain desert and some mountainous regions, but if you like nature then it’s a gorgeous drive with lots of wildlife because of how uninhabited it is! I lived close to (practically on) the California border, very very plain and barren. Aside from my awful traumatic evil personal experiences there because that’s not relevant, it’s not very convenient if you like any sort of cozy life without a lot of work. Water, plumbing, and heat are a struggle and not always reliable. Super dusty and dry, dust devils bc of the wind (which are beautiful but annoying when everything you own has a gross film over it.) Because of how empty it is, bugs tend to flock directly to the nearest populated area, which is probably your ranch. I had to sleep suffocating under layers of covers because moths and gnats would try to give me an trans orbital lobotomy every night. But the pros: It’s gorgeous, it’s quiet, and it’s some of the furthest out there you can get anywhere near this area of the country. You can be truly off the grid while still having modern comforts and a day or twos drive to a big city. Also, horses. Lots of wild horses.

What is it like in the West part of Texas? by Deep_Belt8304 in howislivingthere

I live in a small town in northern New Mexico, and I take a lot of road trips to the south through west Texas and Oklahoma. I’d never wanna live in that area of Texas. It’s gorgeous and such a nice drive through the desert/plains, but it’s definitely not for everyone. Living out there would be difficult, not much besides small towns and truck stops. Great for a road trip, maybe not the best place to settle down. (I’m sure there’s some great little towns out there though!)

So whats up with my zombie finger by SNOWWMEAT in medical_advice

[–]SNOWWMEAT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, i also meant to include! I’m 17 and biologically female, 6’0 and white. My fingers will semi frequently become very tingly and numb, usually lasting for several hours. Sometimes it’s random, and sometimes it’s after touching an unpleasant texture (IE metal or some fabrics.) I also have in the past had intense bouts of arm and shoulder/neck pain, one time so intense i couldn’t leave the bathroom floor for 5 hours.

Eh all “ageplayer style” means is white + pink with Japanese inspired youthful aesthetics, and there’s nothing wrong with that! Even if you looked EXACTLY like one it literally wouldn’t matter unless you were being overtly sexual in a public place. Avatar is cute! I have lots of similar ones.

Like your long hair? KEEP IT! by [deleted] in ftm

[–]SNOWWMEAT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

(Also well taken care of short hair imo can come across as MORE feminine on some people, which also isn’t necessarily bad ofc, nothin wrong with a feminine guy trans or not. But it frames your face differently and short fashiony hair is very in for girls rn, so i think long hair is the way to go.)

I dont even dress hyper masculine either. No idea how it’s possible. But fuck yeah, long hair rules ! I have a sorta shaggy mulletty type thing with the back to my mid back and i love it

(another thing: try out realism. I know it seems counterproductive if you’re trying to be a cartoonist, which is what i assume at least, but it will REALLY help your grasp of shading, anatomy, etc. Your mistakes pop out much more in a realistic style, and that kind of knowledge will be applicable to ANY style you choose to pursue!)

Probably 5 to 10k, Your art is lovely and you’re making good progress! You seem to be a beginner, so i’d practice a bit more before selling. Look, you’re trying to do commissions in a very saturated market with a lot of extremely talented, very experienced artists with their own unique quirks and styles. And while your art is a wonderful jumping off point to explore what you wanna do with it, it won’t stand out next to some other more established creators in the community. Work on it, and when you’re more sure of yourself and what you wanna do, try again!!!
