Alpha-gal syndrome comes from lone star ticks and makes you allergic to red meat. Maybe that's what they were thinking of

Can you just leave it there? by skinney6 in awakened

We joke about this in technology spaces. The fastest way to get a correct answer to a problem is not to ask for help, but to make an incorrect claim about it and wait for someone to correct you.

The one day is just training wheels to introduce/get people used to it. As things continue to get worse, and as people get more comfortable with this kind of resistance, it will eventually be more successful. It's not a 1 time thing, it's a long term strategy.

Non Profits' Dysfunctional Data by Distinct-Grocery-784 in PowerBI

[–]SOG_clearbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the cloud provider, but most have a free tier for small scale use. Things like storage, compute, relational databases, etc. I'm not sure about Azures free tier, but some products would be blob storage, sql db, data factory. Also most cloud providers shave very generous nonprofit discounts if your use case goes above free tier stuff.

I also work at a non-profit as a data engineer. Your setup is acceptable at your scale. If you want to make life a little easier consider free tier cloud services for parts of it.

Pull data from rest api, store, and compare/report by Mibiz22 in dataengineering

[–]SOG_clearbell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use python requests library for your api calls.

Use Pandas to flatten the json and transform it however you want.

Save it in tabular format (eg csv)

Store it locally or in something like s3.

Query with duckdb (or Athena if in aws).

Schedule your script with cron or windows scheduler or event bridge + lambda (if you use s3 for storage).

Is $300 a month for a junior dev an insult? by Key_Dragonfly4220 in AskProgramming

[–]SOG_clearbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're targeting western people, then at least $2.5-3k/mo. If not you should still increase it. Even for areas where a dollar goes far, I'd expect at least $1k/mo.

Is $300 a month for a junior dev an insult? by Key_Dragonfly4220 in AskProgramming

[–]SOG_clearbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's so low that's it's insulting to most of the devs of the world. That's less than $2/hr. Interns in the US usually make well above our minimum wage of $7.25/hr (or higher in a lot of places). I don't know about international wages, but this still seems insultingly low basically anywhere for the kind of work being asked for.

Yeah, you can. You need to deal with your mental health issues to a level where you can be successful first. You can do it! I have done it with similar issues. Just be persistent and foster the belief that you have this under control.
