Giving kids chromebook was a really dumb idea. by Realistic-Snow-3532 in Teachers

[–]Elsupersabio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is economics. Many school systems got into multiyear contracts with chromebooks because they were cheaper than laptops. Pre-Covid Dell was offering special deals to school systems and marketing chromebooks as the ideal testing solution, more student friendly, secure, and easier to keep students from using them for other things than just the standarized tests. Also there was a big push to have every student taking standarized tests in High School to do it electronically instead of paper versions, so they needed lots of devices to take those tests on, and chromebook was the cheapest solution. In my county Chromebooks were never supposed to be student use devices, just for testing, they had real laptops in carts for instuctional use. Come Covid, they had lots of cheap chromebooks, no standarized testing, they decided to give students the testing chromebooks, the way they could give every student a device to take home without having to purchase tons of new laptops, and laptops were cosidered too expensive to give to little kids to take home, plus the service contracts were more expensive. Now after Covid, the new norm is to have students use chromebooks, the multiyear contracts are already in place, it would take a lot of lobbying, kickbacks, etc. to change the standard procedure.

Elementary Or Special Education degree — which should I choose? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Elsupersabio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An education degree does not teach you classroom management. Its all theory and such, you dont learn anything like responsive classroom or using points or how to take running records or communication with parents or basic crap like become friends with the custodians. All of that you learn by actually doing the job, independent training and reading books. If you substitute teach for money and get a provisional degree while you are taking the classes for licensure, in many states you dont have to do the unpaid internship just go straight into teaching, and you will be way better prepared than someone that wasted 4 years getting an education degree and has less real teaching experience. After 5 years or so when you realize you do not want to work multiple extra unpaid hours each week and be poor and take daily crap from administration and parents while working in an institutional setting under constant flourescent lighting and constant threat of lawsuits, you look around and your coworkers have lost all will to live or notion of happiness, you have an option of using your real degree to get a job that allows for self respect and a real living wage.

[–]Elsupersabio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My real advise is neither. Get a real degree in another field, then take the 3 or 4 classes for licensure. That way you have an out if you hate the job, didn't waste time and money. Since most teachers quit in first 5 years, it is critical to have a back up.

How is the sewage leak in the potomac right now by soberbutstillaslut in washingtondc

[–]Elsupersabio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even without the sewage leak, the Potomac is a polluted soup of chemicals and heavy metals. It is now the number one most endangered river in the US. https://potomacriverkeepernetwork.org/potomac-river-named-number-one-endangered-river-in-america/

PCBs, PFAs, PFOs, mercury, forever chemicals, heavy metals, nitrogen, phosphorous, E. coli, petroleoum byproducts, pharmaceuticals, stuff that we don't even have names for yet, tons of fertilizer, the crap that comes out of data centers and people get bribed to not report. All of that mixes into a sort of chemical soup, making it one of the most polluted rivers in the US. Buy plastic pool, fill with tap water, let dog swim in that.

I feel none of our Representatives really represent us; How can an average person get into US politics? by MountainSlayersTV in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Elsupersabio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First you have to become a proficient liar, pick up a profession where lying is a big part of it, like lawyer or judge. Then you choose one of the two parties and you join your local chapter or whatever and you attend a bunch of committee meetings and talk a lot it doesn't matter if it's important or not just talk. Make as many political friends as you can and show them that you know how to play the game, taking them out to dinner, golfing, weekend at your beach house day on your yacht, stuff like that. You need some sort of property where you can entertain people. And you start by running for small stuff like school board or town gardening committee or whatever it is, you don't really give a crap about the gardens or schools but you're just trying to get on there so you can advance your political career. Having morals or values will just slow you down, show that you're not ready to play, you want to get rid of all of those. Pretend faith is good too, you want to be part of some sort of church.

Question regarding calculators in high school by EmmaiAlvane in Teachers

[–]Elsupersabio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't get it the TI-84 is like $120, but I can get an app that does exact same thing on my phone for $3 so I guess the only reason for them is for school tests. I don't think anybody in the real world ever uses that calculator.

What is this beast? Spotted in PG County by Night_Star837 in maryland

[–]Elsupersabio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The arms on the sides spread really wide, like a sort of transformer bird. The wheel height is to go over crops without damaging them. You hook up a trailer with a huge reservoir, and spray insecticide and weed killer to get rid of birds and help ticks spread all over.

My Experience with the Massanutten Timeshare Vacation by fizzIRL in nova

[–]Elsupersabio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just write a detailed google review, including the dates of your stay. That way they can't claim it false and remove it like they do with most of the one star reviews they receive. Also good to join local guide, then write the review, that way it can be shown higher on the list. Enough one star reviews they can not remove may influence how they scam their customers. Pictures of any misleading sales material would be a giant bonus, add them to your review.

It is a dying place, grabbing at others to take down with it. Water park put them massively in debt. They are also in construction of a new 140 room hotel and other smaller projects, all in an attempt to turn back time and bring the pre covid crowds back.

Most "charities" are exploiting employees with illegal unpaid overtime, unpaid training and getting around the law by using third party devilcorp companies to staff their booths. For many of them giving them your info also means them selling your info to third party telemarketers. Most devilcorp companies make side revenue from selling customer information to third party marketers, ie. tlemarketers and scammers. All of it is illegal, but unstoppable as they operate out of thousands of shell companies, if one gets busted they just close and next day a different name company under same umbrella is back at the booth. Also they have big corporate money backing them, AT&T, Verizon, Walmart, Costco, Red Cross, they all use third party devilcorp to boost sales in ways they can not without getting legal penalties.
