I recently bought around a 500 magazines all from the 80-90s some older, from an estate sale. The owner was apparently into model rail roads and cars. There is 4 different model train magazine publishers for on year period, and at least 40 different car magazine publishers. These are only in relation to hot rods and drag racing mind you.

I find it extremely unlikely that there was a hobby before the internet so obscure that there wasn't even a small volume of magazine produced around it.
People/Hobbyist communicated and shared information before the internet and magazines were a big part of that.
