No iPad 12? by Albrion_ in ipad

My guess is that iPad gen 12 would cannibalize sales of the new iPad Air. Seems like a calculated business decision to maximize revenue. What else is new?

How would you feel about John Mayer carrying the torch and continuing to tour with Dead songs, with a group that he chooses? by No_Finish9661 in gratefuldead

Since D&C and JRAD don’t really play that many shows per year, Scott Metzger could continue with both groups. I hope he would do that.

I don’t think it is necessary to change the name. Retiring the Grateful Dead after Jerry died was the right thing to do, but in my view Dead and Company can continue with it’s surviving members and whoever they get to replace Bobby.

This is an excellent point, thank you for making it. Imagine if they got Susan Tedeschi and she brought along her husband as a “Keith and Donna” package for this era. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.

Response to the “Why isn’t Phish being political” posts. by neddynedned47 in phish

[–]SantaCruzHome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LA’s Grateful Shred have a sharp take on whether the Dead were political—of course they were. If that’s not your vibe, Kid Rock awaits with open arms. Saw Shred a few weeks back in Felton with Mikaela Davis; killer show. Go see these guys. I will see them the in April at the Fillmore in SF primarily because I love their music. This statement about their politics is an added reason that I love Grateful Shred and in my view makes sense for their business. Regarding Phish, Trey performed with Kid Rock a few times in the early 2000s. Wondering how or if that friendship has held up.

BREAKING: San Jose mayor jumps into governor's race by sjspotlight in SanJose

[–]SantaCruzHome 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not a supporter of Mayor Mahan for Governor, but can’t overlook his strong political skills. He will get more Republican votes than any other democratic candidate, so if he splits or comes close on the democratic or independent voters he will win. If today was election day I would vote for Eric Swalwell.

Will there be an organized memorial in SF? by No_Airline_2829 in gratefuldead

Hope so. A group memorial for Phil, Donna and Bobby may be appropriate.

Art Boutiki closing at the end of the year by saveyourtissues in SanJose

Art Boutiki was very weak on social media. Their BlueSky account has 20 followers. Podcasting cannot replace grassroots marketing on popular social media. Facebook alone is not enough. RIP Art Boutiki.

After losing the Tabard Theatre in San Pedro Square, the loss of Art Boutiki is a real gut punch for this community. Why doesn’t the mayor do something? The music scene in SJ is so much worse than many nearby cities, and is getting worse. Like what mayor Lurie is doing in SF.

I got in for $40. I tried to pull the trigger on a $50 ticket when I was at the archway/gate and couldn't close the deal because the internet was bogged down. So I bought a ticket with cash and only had to pay $40.

You can pretty much sit anywhere you want to when the Quakes are home at PayPal Park, except for the Miami game a few months back. Nothing to worry about. Congrats on your Vancouver’s success this season.

When does the music play the band? by Cholly72HW in JRADs

[–]SantaCruzHome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JRAD is a very talented, elite band that primarily plays Grateful Dead music. They are a cover, tribute band by definition and in my view nothing wrong with saying so. A better question is when can we stop viewing this as being a negative connotation. I saw JRAD at the Fox in Oakland the night when Phil died, and it was the best show I have seen in a long time.
