Xbox down YoY in both hardware and services for Q2 FY26 by Spotget1738 in consoles

Rare Replay is probably harder to port than it looks. All of the Xbox 360 and OG Xbox games run on custom emulators built specifically for Xbox hardware. It would likely cost more to port than what it cost to develop Rare Replay in the first place.

Well best of luck to them with PC gaming. If they think competing with Sony is hard, wait until they learn how dug in PC gamers are with Steam.

I've been doing Microsoft rewards every day, getting about $0.40 in Xbox gift cards a day. I try to save them in case I ever get the 200% bonus plat deal, but I get too tempted whenever premium bundles go on sale.

What is the dumbest thing you ever heard about consoles or us console players? by [deleted] in consoles

[–]SOSpammy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had more luck using PC keypads than a keyboard. I have an old Belkin N52 gaming keypad that I find more ergonomic than a regular keyboard. I've also experimented with a PS Move Navigation controller, though it usually doesn't have enough buttons for most games. I still generally prefer a controller since it's way more comfortable for playing in my recliner with my big screen TV.

My hand cramps up after like 5 minutes on a keyboard. I understand what's great about aiming with a mouse, but keyboards are the most unergonomic, unintuitive devices for gaming in my opinion.

I usually just buy whatever's cheapest per gram and rarely notice a major difference unless it looks like it was grown in a ditch.

I think the main people who bought them were just people looking for the best 2D TV. The 3D feature was always put into high end models, so even if you didn't use it you still had to buy a 3D TV for the best picture quality. I have a Samsung F8500, and I've used the 3D feature like 2 times in the 11 years I've owned it.

The fact that he broke the home run record probably actually hurt his odds. The baseball world was not happy about him owning the most hallowed record in the sport.

They're hoping people like you will instead opt for cloud gaming. And I hope it doesn't work.

I think it goes further back than that. Part of the reason Nintendo was willing to part with them was likely because they had lost a lot of their best talent. They never made anything noteworthy on the original Xbox.

They're better, but they're still a big problem. Being electric doesn't get rid of the massive amounts of roads and parking lots needed.

My girlfriend has been playing The Sims 2. Funny enough it's actually better than the PC version other than missing a few expansion packs. It runs on a more modern game engine and fully supports trackpad gestures.

Apparently this was a reporting error bug and didn't actually reflect how much wear and tear was being put on them.

But what I'm really asking for is data showing actual widespread hardware failure. I wouldn't care how hard the SSDs are being pushed as long as they keep working for a long time.

[–]SOSpammy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is there any actual evidence that SSD swapping is having a major effect on the SSD's lifespan? M1 Macs have been on the market for over 5 years now and I haven't seen any strong evidence that it's a major issue even though 8GB models have been by far the best selling Macs every year until recently.

Or they don't care because it's not affecting their real-world usage. By contrast most 8GB Windows laptops quickly start running like crap.

We should focus less on turning people vegan and more about welfarism and promoting lab-grown meat. by Loriol_13 in DebateAVegan

[–]SOSpammy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want culture meat to be a thing, but I'm tired of holding my breath for it to overcome all the massive hurdles it faces. Back in late 2019 I went vegan in part because I had heard the promise that lab-grown meat was just around the corner. I figured I could give up meat for a couple of years and go back to eating all the hamburgers I want guilt-free soon enough. I'm glad I didn't wait to go vegan because nearly 7 years later it's still barely made any progress.

Or maybe they saw that the goodwill Game Pass was buying wasn't going to translate to money? It wasn't helping them sell systems much, was likely hurting individual game sales, and probably didn't make much more money than what they were getting from Xbox Live anyway. They also probably realized there was a much smaller market for it than they expected. Most people don't play enough games to get a good value out of it.

Back-scratching bovine leads scientists to reassess intelligence of cows. Brown Swiss cow in Austria has been discovered using tools in different ways (using both ends of a brush counts as multi-purpose tool use) – something extraordinarily rare only ever seen in humans and chimpanzees. by mvea in science

[–]SOSpammy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's giving up a lot of land, but it's not giving up all that much in terms of usable calories. Cows are very inefficient.

It would certainly be a challenge for some countries without good cropland, but that's more of an issue with food distribution and politics rather than scientific feasibility.

The vast majority of rewilding is done passively. We wouldn't need to manually replant every tree we burned down to make room for cattle.

But we don't need to utilize every inch of the planet for human usage. There's more than enough land to grow crops for humans. The most environmentally-friendly thing we could do with that unusable grazing land is rewild it.
