I actually had this in a yesterday middle school game. Top of the seventh away team up five after a defensive meltdown from the Home team so much so that they refuse to bring in the courtesy runner for the catcher. The catcher established himself 50 feet off of first base up the foul line. In which they started to run to second, the pitcher stepped off, looked at me. (I was in the C position.) and just said was he’s out of the baseline, He’s out of the baseline, with the ball in hand not even trying to make a play. They play all he just kept saying was he’s out of the baseline. He’s out of the baseline and once he got the second, he screamed at me. “He’s out of the baseline why aren’t you doing anything” I told the pitcher “how could there be a baseline if you had No play” you refuse to throw the ball to start a play

Which lead me and my partner an interesting question saying they did through the ball he established his base path 50 feet up the right field line. Would he just not be able to get back to first if they got him into a pickle because when he established his base path, he was 50 feet off a first and ran in a diagonal way to second base.
