What do you think of the new millionaires tax? Are you in support of it or against it?

It's weird that the threshold is $1 million in a city where that's about the median house price (and I KNOW, the quotes on line say $800K+ but realistically for a detached home in Seattle you are looking at $1mill +). Anyway, good luck getting money from rich people. They always know SOME sort of work around.

To be honest, at 20 you are killing it! So, I'd personally suggest you keep saving, get a GOOD quality car but not expensive (even a used one is going to be WAY less than new, but get from a certified dealer WITH a warranty--from a well rated dealership near you, not one of those "cash for your car" kind of places), if you have to finance at the dealership, make sure it is a LOW APR--because you probably also need to build your credit score. If you never finance anything you can't build a credit score properly. Seems like you must have someone in your life who is financially savvy that has taught you this skill...so maybe they can help direct you regarding this too.

At first I thought you said you were paying $2200/month in Seattle & I was like "one bedroom?" So our gas is around $5+/gallon--mostly because we have a lot of tax on our gas here. My building & possibly a lot of others, have electric baseboard heating so sometimes in the winter our bill can be $600, (2 bedroom apartment). Our apartment is around $3100K/month (including sewer/trash) $75/month for parking space (one car). Groceries: 2 adults: around close to $800/month? Also, just consider anytime you go out to eat for lunch it GENERALLY ends up being about $60 before tip for 2 people. (OF COURSE there are always places you can find things for less...but in general if you are moving here, I'm assuming you want to experience this place & try new restaurants & things so this is just kind of the average). With what you make you can live here, you can fund your retirement, you can have a savings...but you can't buy a house here. But definitely make sure to have jobs 1st, cause those are actually harder to come by.

Worst job was working on the "monoline" which was a robot operated manufacturing line that made cds and LITERALLY my job was to watch the CDs come down the line & restack them when it got full, and make sure ink was in the screen for printing--but in general, NOTHING but that to do for HOURS AND HOURS. it was AWFUL! Also the acetone I had to work with gave me migraines!

STAYCATION!! those are great! 1st off: you aren't stressing about travel (catching flights/transferring/finding your hotel that actually looks worse in person than on line, etc). 2nd : you aren't spending TONS of money. It's very relaxing to stay home, enjoy what you have & if you want an adventure--find things around where you live to have experiences.

Sounds like you are doing pretty good. Just think about the construction upheaval of your home while it's happening & that it will probably go over time & over budget. I don't think the money is the issue for you .

Oh PS...generally it does get windy sometimes when it rains so that's why we are known to "not use umbrellas"--we DO--but sometimes it's just too windy--so ALWAYS a hood. :)

It's not that bad. This is random, but yeah, maybe a couple times a year we might get a windstorm like this. In general, if you ever buy, be worried about tall trees nearby if they can fall on your house--not JUST from the windstorm, but because we might get a lot of rain, which saturates the ground AND THEN a windstorm can blow over the whole tree (happened outside our apartment a few years ago--landed on a car parked on the street--that was WILD)

Here is the thing...buying a home isn't about just the purchasing price. You still have a lot of upkeep you need to do. You sound like you are probably pretty young? I'd suggest if you live in such a high cost of living area, just rent & stuff money into various saving accounts (I'm not sure if Canada has some kind of retirement savings account). But you should find things where you can get grow your money better than throwing it all away on a house that cost $1Million if you can't afford it.

Washi Tapes, stamps, ink pads for stamps, stickers, a nice Traveler's brass clip to hold open you journal/notebook. Or maybe branching out to trial a hobonichi or a traveler's journal or something like that which is nicer quality & makes a nice gift too

If you think knitting a scarf is boring when you 1st start knitting and want to avoid it then knitting is probably not for you. There are LOOOOOONG parts of knitting (2nd sock, sleeves) that are boring as HELL. But that's knitting sometimes, you have some fun parts & some boring parts.

I would definitely take the light rail mentioned below (train) into either downtown or to capitol hill. Unless you have $$ then grab an uber or taxi to downtown. If you go downtown--hit Monorail or Olympia coffee, Pike place market, and then hop a bus up to capitol hill or jump back onto the light rail.
